Ruined my headliner. HELP
Hey guys, I have been actively reading the forum for some time now and before anything i wanted to thank all for being so helpful and knowledgeable.
Last week going home i left some pizza inside the car for roughly 15 minutes while i pumped gas and went inside the station to get something to drink, when i came back the pizza smell was strong so i rode home with the windows down (about 15 minutes at 90mph). When i arrived not only the pizza was frozen but my headliner came apart, and there was little pieces of foam all over the car
With all that foam gone i dont think i can put the headliner back together again, and all the headliner places i've called don't have the same material as the original. Is there any place i can purchase an original headliner besides the dealership?? me and dealerships do not get along.
Is there any chance i can be wrong and it may be fixable?
Thank you.
P.S. the seat cooler in the drivers seat went out, i can hear something working and blowing somewhere (cant tell if its the seat or the dash) but the seat does not get cold. If somebody knows something about this we can start another thread.

I had a regular upholstery shop put an all new headliner in my '01 X-type that was about in the same condition as yours. That foam simply breaks down over time. It was a just a matter of time so don't eat yourself up about it.
They replaced the material with a slightly different material and honestly it looked amazing. I was stoked out of my mind it was so pretty. I think I paid $300 plus tip because they did it in one day, looked so good, vacuumed everything up, and didn't tear anything up. Money well spent.

If you park your car outside in the weather all the time, the foam will break down faster. It's just a matter of time on all cars with this type of headliner.

Are you sure it was NOT sagging already and the high speed run just finished the job?
Sure is a lot of material sagging.
Yes go to a trim shop. Hopefully one that advertises doing head liners. They are actually pretty easy to do and I have done 5-6. Now sun visors are a pain!

I wouldn't try to do those myself. I have done the headliner on an XJ8, and it's not that much fun.

I tried that but no luck. Lots of claims to do sun visors PROPERLY but in the end they do the best they can. I could not find anyone who could match the stock units.
I ended up buying new ones from Jaguar as they appear to be molded with some interior sewing.
The only problem I have ever had doing headliners is getting the headliner panel out of the car. Always a chance of breaking plastic clips too.
