Default Service warning messages?

I bought my 2010 XF SC a little over a year ago now, CPO and assume it was serviced etc before I bought it. It just occured to me that I haven't seen a 'service alert' warning on the car yet, telling me it's time to take it in. I thought the service interval on these was 1-year or 15,000 miles - whichever comes first and I'm over a year now. I assume the computer counts both and is meant to warn us - any idea why I haven't been notified. I'll take it in anyway as I don't want to void the extended warranty. I've done a low mileage this year (maybe only 6000 miles) - but I still assume that a year is a year?

Can anyone confirm whether the car notifies us of service interval and any ideas why mine hasn't done so yet.

Mine did notify me about a month before the year was up. Don't know why yours didn't do it.

If I'm not mistaken, The computer doesn't count the months from service to service. The computer measures run time, heat, miles etc to compare wear and tear. The owners manual is what you should rely on. Depending on how you drive and what miles you put on the car, as well as the enviorment you drive in, you may not see a warning during that dead line period.

Perhaps the Service Warning Indicator needs to have an indicator light itself, LOL. But, I believe Redjaguar100 is correct that it only tracks distance, not time. At least that's the case on the '12 MY

Not to argue..

But, I witnessed mine giving me the Service Due warning message at engine start up, about a month before it's anniversary date of being put in service and it stayed on longer the closer I got to the date of being one year old.. and it only had 8700 miles on the car at the time...So I was told by the techs at my dealership (of 15+ years of experience each)..that the car knows the service is due on the yearly anniversary time frame, or the 15,000 mile event..either/or, whichever comes first....I then watched them RESET the Timer.

As far as BritCar's problem (if you want to call it that) is that the messaging system may have been disabled permanently when it was last serviced...It could be possible that they re-flashed his ECM.

DPK, No Argument, you are right to a point. But I do happen to know atleast with my 2010 XF SC, that my tech told me that the car does measure run time, temp and driving styles. The reason that I adressed the question was because I alway got the service message during the warmer months not by the yearly notice. The only key that both of us agreed upon is that I very rear use the car in the winter months. This made sense to me because I always racked up the mile and spirited drove in the warmer months. And I think that when you reset the system, your actual bring all the primeters back to zero. Just my 0.02 cents

I bet the predictable service algorithms is different for the 2012..Since Both the Sales Staff and the Service people said this is how it work on my 2012 as I described..

I actually have no idea what it does in practice, as I've never gotten a service indicator warning. Just going off of what it says in the manual, where I think it simply states that it tracks based on mileage - but, I certainly would hope it would also look at time, since that's what is specified in addition to mileage for actual service intervals ...

Have you had the first service yet?..I'm assuming you did by now..but the Message is very brief and not at all a big eye catcher when it's on right after the car engine first starts, maybe a whole two seconds...then it's off and the Info/Data center is back to normal..so if you're not looking at it at the time it's on, you'll miss it..

Then again, since you are the second person here that mentioned no message..I'm wondering if this can be defeated through a program step the dealer can do...

But like I said..I got the Message at 8700 miles, about a month before the 1 year anniversary date of the car entered into service.

My '11 SC had not even come close to the mileage but did display about a month before the in service date that I purchased the car on.

DPK, your not crazy, I can believe anything with these cars..LOL.. Like I used to get a low battery warning message on a new battery or my e-brake light would flash every time I entered the car. I hope these issues are cleared up with my 2013. I just might wait to see if I get a message next year when it get closer to that service period.
The funny thing is, My service message would come on like you described but the longer I went without service, the longer the message would stay on after start up. Come to think about it.. That message was reason I ended up buying this 2013. I had no intentions on buying a new car until I was in the dealership to get my oil changed. I seen this one on the show room floor and the rest is history. That message is their assurance that you will be back atleast for that service..
