Hi everyone,
I am thinking of getting a used 2012 Jaguar XF 5.0 with sport package!
Car is 72,000km (45360.1 miles) giving around 8000km balance on jag factory warranty.
I am wondering if I should get 3rd party extended warranty:
Comprehensive
2 years 40k km
5k Claim
0 deductibles
Costing $2100
Feature: With no claims near the end of my warranty I can double (extra 2 years 40k km) for $150 extra.
I am in Canada sorry about the km/miles conversions.
I am pretty tight on my budget for a car but I always hear that you should get warranty on luxury cars as fixing them are expensive.
That's a tough question no one knows if you would need it or not. If not, it gives you some peace of mind knowing you have it. Looks like the policy you selected says comprehensive but what does it cover? Also, if you decide to go that route look into one with a deductible. That should lower the cost considerably. The extra $150.00 seems worth it if you buy the insurance. IMHO.
In a word I would say yes. These cars get expensive real fast when it comes to repairs. Just read through some of the post.
I have just put my car in for MOT and it had an intermittent problem with front indicator. After a problematic diagnosis at main dealers it seems that the headlight washer unit has been leaking into main headlight unit causing theintermittent problem. Outcome is new headlight unit required, cost £1300+ inc. fitting. Thankfully warranty covers this and has now basicaly paid for itself!
If the warranty is from a 3rd party as opposed to an actual JLR CPO warranty then I would skip it and save that extra money for actual future maintenance.
In my experience a third party warranty full of exclusions, conditions and deductibles will never payout and in fact will just cost you more. My two cents.

It all depends on what type of 3rd party warranty you are buying. If it's an "Exclusionary" policy it's as good as the original factory warranty. I have never bought manufacture extended warranties and always opted for 3rd party exclusionary policies and have yet to have an issue with a claim (E55, M5, and now my XFR).
Some manufacture extended warranties limit in what is covered after the 4/50 mark.
Just be sure that the Manufacture CPO is an Exclusionary Policy if you decide to go that route!
In some ways I guess I was fortunate that the previous owner extended the standard warranty when it expired. I did consider not bothering to further extend but after looking at some of the costs of potential repairs I thought it prudent to further extend, so glad I did! The warranty is still with Jaguar and I would Imagine that if it was with a 3rd party then I may not have extended, I have heard of some people having a fight on their hands when it comes to claims.
