Thanks for keeping me honest, Blackcoog, I spaced that one.
Recap:
5.0L Castrol SLX OE Professional 5W20 Capacity 7.25L (Basically 8 Qts.)
4.2L 5W30 Conventional Oil (Synthetic recommended) Capacity 6.0L (Roughly 6.5 Qts.)
OP was inquiring about the SLX oil, must be a 5.0L engine.
Cheers,

I bought 2 Quarts of the SLX Professional here in Denver when visiting for work.
So if my reading (when it's cold) says add 0.5 L or sometimes add 1.0 liter, I will be fine to drive it home from the airport tonight and retest when it is hot to see if I can get a more accurate reading?

Regardless of the exact total capacity of the sump my main point was that it is a lot of oil. Emphasizing that the engine is designed to run all day every day with the oil at the low point it is unnecessary to worry about th exact oil level as long as it is above the low and not above the high point. Too much oil is worse than half a quart low.

My 2013 XF 3.0 (V6 SC) calls for 7.25L. My mechanic has a tool that can read the oil level in the sump. He insisted on reading it cold, however. If he adds oil when cold and gets a reading of 7.2L, what is the likelihood that he has overfilled the sump?
