You need a mechanic with a clue!!

There's not many faults it can be, air leak, sticking throttle plate, whatever. Happens to lots of cars. The older they get the more troubles.

NEighbour with the same engine in an X350 did just that, engine still went bang. Turned out an apprentice had filled new oil to max. The engine will overrev when selfdieseling, it was initially doing that even before he hit the brakes and switched to neutral. Btw he is an autoelectrician at my specialist and well aware of the problem. And a very calm guy, never seen him stressed or agitated in twenty years. So something not in accord with your statement here.

Specialist I use (only Jag and LR) had on one occasion three! LR engines on pallets from same self destruction. Owners had been sloppy woth servicing.
