Supercharger Rattle?

I had the supercharger coupler replaced and that didnt fix the noise, I then had the entire supercharger unit replaced for which Jaguar North America covered 50%. Since then....
nothing has changed and it sounds exactly the same. I did take the car back to the dealer and explained that the sound has not gone away and settled on the explanation that that's a normal sound, since they changed the full unit with a brand new one, there is no fault.
I've heard the new gen XF and F foace with 3.0 SC engine and they all have the same sound too (some less loud than others).
Is your car making a noticeable sound while the engine is running? If you would record the sound and post it here, I reckon someone will be able to help you pin point the problem if there is one to begin with.

Hey, I'm no pro, but as per my experience, the supercharger on my car made a clunky noise when the engine shut off (during b/w when I press the engine switch off button and the engine coming to a halt).

Not to be confused with a much less loud relay switch turn off clunk a few seconds after shut down.
When I had my coupler (whole snout in fact) replaced under warranty some three years ago now the rattle remained but the clonk vanished and has never returned.
I'm still at a loss to figure out or pinpoint the main cause of my very very rattly engine, especially at start up and cold idle, but my best bet now is worn timing chains.

The loud clunk (or "clonk") on switch off is a 100% giveaway of a worn coupler. It is the coupler spring rebounding up against the wear grooves.
Not to be confused with a much less loud relay switch turn off clunk a few seconds after shut down.

I've never owned a V8 so leaning towards the BMW, but the Jaguar is roughly $6,000 cheaper. The BMW is also a newer generation having been released in 2016; whereas, the XJ has been around since 2010/2011. The Jaguar has the same exact power plant as the XF (not the slightly revised version found on 2016 XF and F pace V6), so I am concerned about dealing with the same issue but cant say with confidence the BMW will be any more reliable. Fuel economy in the xf was also a concern, despite driving it gently, I could not get any lower than 18l/100 km despite it being advertised at 9l/100 km combined. I'd go through a full tank in 350 KM (not accounting for the fuel in the lines)
Would appreciate your thoughts since you've been with the brand longer having owned multiple products.
Also I've heard that the x351 XJ is a stretched Ford Taurus underneath; whereas, the bmw 7 series shares it's under pinning with a rolls Royce ghost...

Hey OzXFR, I'd like your opinion on a completely off topic matter. The 2015 Jaguar XF was my first JLR vehicle, and although I've loved the car and the performance was more than enough for me, the reliability and terrible warranty has left a sour note. The XF will soon belong to it's new owner, and I'm debating b/w two cars as my next purchase. A 2016 Jaguar XJL Portfolio 3.0 AWD (The only non R option in Canada), I like how the car looks and having driven my dad's 2018, I quite like the ride. The next option is a 2016 BMW 750i with pretty much all the options ticked.
I've never owned a V8 so leaning towards the BMW, but the Jaguar is roughly $6,000 cheaper. The BMW is also a newer generation having been released in 2016; whereas, the XJ has been around since 2010/2011. Cant find anything on the internet comparing the two cars, most of the comparisons are b/w the pre facelift XJ and previous gen 7 series.
Do you have any facts about the XJ sharing its platform with the ford Taurus? That's a huge turn off strictly considering the price gap.
I imagine the price depreciation will be less kind to the XJL vs the 7 series since it's still a current model; whereas the Jaguar has ended production and the fact that the three German giants (Audi, BMW and Mercedes) tend to hold better value b/w comparable models to Jaguars line up anyway.

I believe so aswell, my dads XJL gets better fuel economy than my XF and I've complained to Jaguar several times, even took it a private mechanics with no evidence of something wrong to fall back on.

So your 18 is even worse!
Dunno about the XJ being built on a Ford Taurus platform but it doesn't sound right to me, no mention in the Wiki pages for the X351 and the previous X350 having any chassis connection with any Ford.
Although the XF X250 shared it's chassis platform with the the Ford Mondeo and the Lincoln LS (it was based on the X Type Jag which was designed under Ford ownership).

Interestingly, I had my SC snout changed at approx 55000 km's as there was "rattling" coming from the SC. My mechanic had intended to replace with a new coupler, until he called me and said the whole SC snout would need to be changed as the metal shaft had developed a groove and there was too much play & wear. We replaced the whole snout for a new one. I also requested a replacement of the SC oil to which he replied saying "unable to carry out a service on SC oil as Jaguar has no listing for appropriate oil yet". I find this quite strange. Can anybody advise me on the oil type used for the SC. Cheers

The XJ has no relation to the Taurus. Totally unrelated platforms. Taurus is on a modified platform from the Volvo S80, is FWD, and they substituted in a lot of steel to save cost.
XJ has the Jaguar D2a platform which is all aluminum, RWD and a successor to the earlier XJ model. It was adapted by stretching a Ford platform that S Type and Lincoln LS use
That said - nothing wrong with sharing a platform if it's good. More and more cars are doing that with modular platforms now.

There are a few retailers of oil for the Eaton TVS superchargers but the only one I can find on eBay is Powerhouse, a UK based SC specialist with a good reputation.
