Default Surprises, Surprises

Brought my 2009 XF S/C into the dealership for the 40k service. It actually has 46k..I put 10k on the car since I purchased it. I listed for the dealer numerous small items as follow:

1. Back window would not come up when you pressed the lock button. As you know you press the unlock button to automatically open all the windows and sun roof. When you use the lock function it shoulda close all the windows and sunroof.

2. The plastic cover over the engine was not seated properly and was not bolted down so it was mildly flopping.

3. The interior lamps kept coming on and off by themselves almost every day.

4. Slight rubbing sound when ou turned steering wheel all the way to the left.

5. Needed front brakes and rotors

6. Other small miscellaneous items.

Left the car overnight at the dealership and received a phone call this morning from the service tech.

He informed me that all is fixed except for the steering noise. He went on to inform me that it needs a new RACK AND PINION. Car will not be ready until mid week. Am very lucky they gave me a 2012 XF base to use until repairs are complete. The rack and pinion and all the other items except for the brakes are covered under warranty ( thank goodness). My original warranty runs out next month...fortunately I have the extended warranty as well.

Can you let me know what the fix is for the lamps turning on and of on there own? Mine started doing that recently and it's pretty annoying. It's random so I don't think it would be easy for the dealer to figure it out.

At this point the dealer told me that they had a service bulletin on the lamps. I will keep you informed.

Nothing like a warranty... especially when these surprises pop up.

Wow, what a luck catch before the warranty expires. Makes me feel better I chose a certified Jag with more miles over one at non-jaguar dealership with far fewer miles. Crossing my fingers I will not need the extra warranty time but glad I got it

Interior lamps is a known issue. New unit is the cure.

Window problem is a known issue. New motor is required as the limit function is integral to the motor.

Rubbing sound is the tire on the wheel well liner, another known issue but with no fix.
