If it's just matching the leather at the top, can you take the leather off yours and put it on the new door card?

It appears that the stitching is not different colors and the texture of the leather on the top of the door appears to be courser than that of the smooth leather on the Portfolio models. I would give you a 80% chance of having ordered the correct panel! Let us know how you did.

Ken you were correct, the door card is different, the leather feels more course and has a more textured grain, it is a slightly different shade. So a learning experience but all is not lost just yet.

I have 3 options.

1. Return the incorrect door card I ordered and try and source another. I can only find one potential prospect remaining from ebay that appears to have the same leather - JAGUAR XF N/S/F Door Card in Black+Silver with walnut trim | eBay

2. I could try and get the existing door card plastic welded by a company who does that sort of thing. I've asked for 1 quote.

3. I recently refurbished my drivers seat by a leather specialist, I told then about the issue th the new card and they are saying they can smooth the leather and re-colour it to make it match the rest of the car. They were going to correct any minor defects with the door card anyway as I agreed this as part of the seat job. Overall they did an excellent job on the seat and are very respected for their quality of work. They have offered to do the full door card at no extra charge.

So my only reseveration is that the new door card has some very tiny marks and a couple of scratches to the far right of the aluminum section near the door handle. These can only be seen in a particular light and are not visible when you close the door so it's probably me being too fussy, I can't expect perfection on a £45 door card. These could possibly be improved with metal polish.

I'm tempted at his stage to go with option 3, but very hard to know what to do for the best.

There is an amazing number of variations on the door card listed in the Parts Catalogue depending on:

1. Model (SE, XFR, XFR-S)
2. Specification (Luxury, Portfolio, Premium Luxury)
3. Options (with/without seat memory; with/without B&W Premium Sound)
4. VIN range
5. Colour

In addition, the issue you have found with the leather is it is available in bonded or soft grain.

Getting a used one that's close is a success. Finding an identical one is going to be more like a miracle.

Yes I'm starting to learn this. Fortunately its passenger side, so the memory is not an issue. I'd settle for getting the right colour and leather type.

Sorry to hear your problems! If the colors of the plastic match then my option would be #2. Just replace the broken door card and be done with it. Matching the leather could be tough and is very visible versus just the lower card. All of this assuming the upper portion of what you have now is still in decent shape.

I've opted for option 3, only because Sean from Pristine Leather, who superbly refubished my car seat , has kindly offered to fully overhall the door card as a favour and out of kindness. He is confident he can get it to match the rest of the car.

So basically he's going to smooth the texture / leather grain and colour match it to my cars leather and correct any imperfections, there were a couple of minor blemishes here and there when I inspected it but nothing too bad. I will keep the original door card as a spare and if I eventually find somewhere to repair the plastic coin trap, then I can swap it back to the original card.

I can't tell if the plastic areas of the card are different shade or not, it appears similar if a tiny bit lighter, but that could just be that I cleaned and nourised mine resently. I think when I place the new one on the car it would be very hard to tell the difference for the plastics, so fingers crossed Sean can work his magic on the leather.

Well my door cards finally done.

In the end I combined the best bits of my two door cards, by removing the smooth leather arm rest and top section from my damaged door card and screwing it onto the breakers yard replacement door card that unfortunately had the wrong grain of leather!!

How I did it

I first remove my damaged door card from the passenger side door. I next drilled out the doorcard rivets, holding the leather arm rest and leather top section, both sections then just pulled straight off. I then drilled smaller holes in the remaining fixings on both sections, I didn't drill deep, just enough to screw in some small self tapping scews and washers. This left me with two good sections ready to install on the undamaged but incorrect door card.

So now moving over to the undamaged card, I again drilled out all the rivets on the leather arm rest and top section and removed both. I then attached the smooth leather sections I drilled out earlier, re-enforcing them with double sided mamouth tape. I finally screwed in the self tapping screws and washers. It self tapping screws worked perfectly, it's fixed securely and probably even better then the oem rivets.

So with my modified door card ready to go, I simply fixed it onto the passenger door and job all done.

Here's a few photos :

I think it looks great! A lot of pain for such a small task. I bet you you watch what you are closing the door on next time! LOL. Congrats on the determination though.https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/i...icon_photo.gif

Yeah definately, feel like I've wasted hours of my life away on the wretched thing. I suspect the car was stolen at some point in its life and the damage might have been done then. I removed the inner speaker to have look inside the door and it was full of glass. Cleared it out whilst refurbing the door. Fortunately it's driving well and with me swapping the A Pillars, sanding the kick plates and refurbing the drivers seat, it's looking in good condtion. The MPG is lower then expected, I'm only getting 26 to 28 mpg on the odometer, but I have been doing a lot of short trips. It gets a 200 mile motorway run to Edinburgh next Thursday so looking forward to seeing what it does then. I quite like to check the EGR valve to see how coaked, but not sure where it is on this engine. One the MAF sensors looked pretty dirty, I spray cleaned it the best I could, but some of the dirt looked baked.

Funny you mention broken glass in the door!!

When I got my 2005 STR years ago I kept hearing some noise from the drivers door and it looked like the front doors had different shades of glass in them. Then I saw no window tint on the drivers side. Further inspection showed the windows had different brands of glass.

Took the door card off and bottom of the door was full of broken glass. I have to assume like you that the car was broken onto and the drivers window was smashed.
