Default swapping remote key

i have jag xf
is it possible to swap my old key fob with the newer version 2012+ fobs and get it to work? my key fob looks worn out and wanted to replace it.

i noticed the newer key fob has both 433 mghz and 315 mghz, but not sure how much the older one has. Im sure it needs re-programming but would the newer one program with previous module and function well? is it possible to program it at home?

If u guys know any tips please let me know.

If you just want to clean up your existing fob you can buy the chrome plastic bezels on the edge and the keypad top on eBay (or from a jag dealer). Think mine was about 10usd. Just clips straight into the electrics and cleans it up nicely

I think you misunderstood me. My key fob is worn out completely, meaning i cant even see open and lock labels, its not the matter of chrome bezels. I want to know if it is replaceable with the newer model fobs, if anyone knows please share. the newer fob looks much more sleek and has exact same buttons as other one

As mentioned above you get the chrome bezels and the keypad top that has the lock unlock labels etc. I had the same issue when I bought my car - it was only about $15 on eBay to get the keypad and chrome or around $20 for the whole outside casing

Unfortunately I don't know if you can use the new fobs instead. But you would need to buy a fob (couple of hundred dollars) and program it (also expensive). So I went down the $15 route instead...

I agree with Britcars -- just buy the plastic and chrome pieces and swap the electronics from your old one to the new shell. If you can't find the plastic and chrome pieces on Ebay, you should be able to buy just those from the dealer with no re-programming involved.

Same as those above. Get the refresh kits on ebay. They also have rubber cases to protect the outside on ebay.

Is there anything that can be done when the rubber begins to peel away from the remote housing? Superglue?
