Is there a way to check the trans fluid level??

No means I know of..Other than a complete drain and refill..After you fix the leak of course...I'm not sure, but there maybe a high fill level port you access from the bottom of the Tranny like the X-types had...In other words you remove a 4 or 6 MM hex screw and fill the transmission until it flows out this port..And you must be at an operating temp too.

In theory you can remove the fill plug and pump some new fluid in until it dribbles slowly out of the fill hole, then you know it is full. The fill plug is reportedly a PITA to get at, mounted up high on the side of the trans under the exhaust. Although not specifically for an XF Jag, these two videos should be of some help:

The check procedure is a pain. You need to run the car and keep it within the temp range which is harder than you'd think. It heats up pretty quick and then if it gets above the range for checking you need to let it cool down and start over again. You can't just pull the plug when it's cold or it will dump all the fluid out on you.

HELP!! Not sure if i'm in the right place hopefully someone can shed some light, or if this above procedure is the same for mine, I have the '11 XJL 5.0 Non SC but need to know how to simply check the fluid and maybe do a filter change and maybe do 3 or 4 drain and refills to clean it all out, might need to even add fluid if its a little low. Has 70K miles runs fine so not sure if I should just leave it alone or not I hear these are no maintenance sealed for life but I don't believe in that noise, gotta have clean fluids..

Yes look at the videos posted up thread. They show what is needed. I will say that IF I did not have a lift I would just take to a dealer.
It's a bit fiddly and real easy to burn yourself on the exhaust pipes. Plus the real key is getting the transmission level while checking the fluid.
I would NOT ignore it since your at 70K miles which is when I would want to get the fluid swapped out.

I'm a pretty good backyard mechanic and have done the trans fluid swap on many cars so If i do it I'll probably just do it myself. I wouldn't take my car to the dealer if it were on fire, god knows if they did it if it would even be done right or even at all.. They know you could never find out because its totally sealed..

Thanks to all who have posted in this thread.
Can't check the oil.
Can't really check the transmission fluid.
Oh this is going to be a great old car to own when it gets old.
Gearbox fault; don't get that.
Oil leak don't get that.
Transmission oil needing changed: don't do that.
Transmission oil leak: don't get that.
Really?
Jaguar H2O pump: don't get that.
OEM X-over pipe: don't get that.
Sat nav touch screen: make sure it never fails on ya.
i'm sorry Jaguar: the wtf's are mounting.
Note to me:
You are really dumb (owned Audis and transaxle/front engine Porsche's)
You guys ever heard of a Porsche 928 pilot bearing failure or T Tube failure?
or 968 pinion bearing failure *(Getrag overtorqued a bolt and the '92/93's all blew up)
Ever owned a 944T or 968T conversion?
Ever owned a BMW?
thought i'd seen everything.
thought the Germans were the only dicks......

You can check the oil level:
Jaguar XF – Checking Oil Level
1. Open the hood (Bonnet)
2. Turn on ignition without starting.
3. Scroll through trip settings using trip button on end of turn signal stalk.
4. Stop on oil level indicator read out.
If read out is not available, push the "Cancel" button on cruise control two times quickly and try again.

I do not have to open the hood(bonnet on my 2012 XF Portfolio to check the oil level. The remainder of the the procedure is all that is required on my car.
