Thinking of '11 XF? Your thoughts?
Hello! I've been lurking this forum for the past week or two, and i thought i should ask before i really go through with it.
Ive had my eye on an 2011 XF Premium, it has 71000 miles, Clean Carfax and it's in my price range; is there any advice that you guys could give me or things to check and keep an eye on?
Ive Loved Jags as i Have driven the '13 and '14 xf as well as my fathers '14 Ftype S, and i need an extra opinion or reason that can help me pull the trigger.
Thanks Guys!

I've had my 11 xf for a little over 3 years now, and it's been a really great car. I can say I've enjoyed driving it every mile. Not to say it didn't have any problems, it came with warranty coverage and used it to fix a few things.
Been out of warranty covg now for about 18 months or so, and so far (knock on wood) I haven't had to pay for anything that isn't a routine service. I was worried going out of warranty, but so far so good. Either lucky with mine or these cars are overall more reliable than they're thought to be!
I'm aware the leather dash on this car can sometimes bubble, especially if you're or the car was likely under hot sun (AZ/CA/TX/NV etc.) So I'd check the dash is smooth and no signs of bubbling. It is pricey to get this fixed if it bubbles. Also there's some talk of water pump problems. Personally, and depending on where I was buying it from, I might consider an independent mechanic familiar with newer Jags to thoroughly check it out.
Good luck and hope you see your own soon.

An 2011 XF 5.0 is an updated and improved version of my '08 S-Type. My S-Type has been faultless (except for an S-Type specific head lamp problem and the failure of the radio/phone/NAV amplifier. That seemed happen with some S-Types and XJs but was somewhat rare so I'll give 'em a pass on that one).
It's not an SFR but is so very smooth and refined and the V8 just does make it scoot when necessary (2015 JCNA National Slalom Champion Class M).

My karma just ran over your dogma
Current Hers: '13 Lexus ES350
Current Mine: '08 Jaguar S-Type 4.2 "Satin Edition"

Given the timing issues and water pumps on the 5.0 2011, I would go with the bullet proof 2010's . I had the 4.2 xj8 and only replaced the coolant tank and plastic coolant bits in 100k miles. Oh and the rear suspension links.
The looked changed in 2012, so if you want the 5.0.., go for that year.

And the 2010 has the same water pump issue as other years although I would assume all have been replaced by now...

'11 XF Premium. Purchased new, currently have ~28,000 miles...yes, its a garage queen.
Have been pleasantly surprised considering everything I'd read/heard prior.
Outside of normal maintenance:
--overhead reading light intermittently turned itself on, replaced module
--front passenger window would intermittently roll itself down halfway, replaced regulator
--SiriusXM unit draining battery, replaced unit & battery
--couple of recalls, can't recall off the top of my head
BUT, I was surprised at my last visit the dealer replaced the brakes/rotors. This gave me pause as it only had 24,xxx miles at the time and has been driven in a moderate manner. I'm hoping it was a 'courtesy' by the dealer as this as my last "Platinum Coverage" service before the 5/50,000 warranty expired.
My 2 biggest annoyances are the headlights and a/c. Even though mine has xenon low-beams, and the dealer adjusted them several times, they're still too dim...hi-beams are fine thankfully. A/C just can't keep up with southern heat & humidity and the ventilated seats are non-existent. Wish they cooled half as well as they heated!!!

I've been looking at XF's too, but here it is still winter and so I can't tell on a test drive how well its going to work in summer. I assumed the XF a/c would be at least very good since ice cold a/c is one of the absolutely astounding features on my old xj8. If the XF a/c is as notoriously inadequate as Honda Accords, that could be a deal breaker. You're the first post I've read anything like this. Anyone else feel the same about their XF's a/c system?

Depends on where you park. If it's been in direct sun, it takes a little while for the AC to really make headway. Once everything equalizes, it keeps things very cold. The seats can take 15 minutes to catch up on a hot day.

This is the first car that I can remember having to override the "auto" setting. Above 80*, set temp to 60 and keep fan on highest setting, can usually raise temp to 65, but if it's above 85* ambient fan has to stay on higher setting or system can't keep up as the windows lack any type of UV protection.
Kyanite is correct about sitting in direct sun. I have the rear sunshade and purchased the official Jag front sunshade. During summer months this helps some, but still use remote to lower all windows and open sunroof few minutes before entering vehicle. Even then, if temp above 90*, system struggles to adequately cool car even with temp at coldest setting and fan set to high.
BUT, even on coldest days heater has car toasty warm quickly and you can fry bacon & eggs on the seat!!!

Were you aware of a TSB JTB00380 on Air Conditioning? Have you have the dealer check it out?

Wasn't aware of this.
My dealer gave me the usual "Operating as designed" answer.
How they ever became a "Pride of Jaguar" dealer......
I just assumed it was because it's a Ford unit, and other family members who've had Fords complained about their a/c systems.
