Default Tire wear - expectations?

Having come from a BMW 5 series which used run flat tires and wore out a set in just 25K miles (at a cost of $2200 to replace which included balancing and alignment), I am interested to know what experience people on this forum have had with tire longevity on the XF.

I have an 2010 XF Premium which is equipped with 245/40 R19 tires M & S tires and 15K miles on the clock. I drive 60 miles a day in a mix of toll roads and start stop urban traffic. I do not race and try not to smoke the tires!! I live in Texas so the roads are reasonable with no road surface problems due to frost heave.

Any experience shared would be helpful.

Thanks.

Default A little worse

I have coming up to 12K miles on my car, but 4K were on winter tires. My guesstimate is that if I can get 10K out of the summer rears I will be doing well. The summer fronts might make 12K.

Ouch. Looks as if I have already passed the sell by date for my tires! Mind you, I only have 385 bhp and my tires are the lowly M & S type, probably with lower wear characteristics, rather than your high performance tires. Are you getting down to the tread wear indicators or are there other reasons for your feeling that they will wear out in another 2K to 4K miles (scalloping, uneven tread wear etc.)?

Default Wear bars

Alignment is all correct, the wheels are round and they're all balanced. It's simply that if you drive it you're going to wear them out. On the 911's I would get between 7.5K and 9K out of the rears so this is an improvement!

M&S and all-seasons can actually wear faster then summer performance tires...everything with tires is pretty much how you drive (and proper inflation and set up specs too)

We got approx 40k miles out of our summer perfomance tires on the 7 series first 2 sets and i got almost 40k out of the summer performance tires on the STR and I drive it pretty hard.

10k miles on 911 rears isnt unusual if driven properly (please rev that motor up to at least 3k always! )

You have a good point. I tend not to be too aggressive withe my XF (I also drive a BMW Z4 3.0Si Coupe - it has max summer performance run flats and have 28K on them and they are very noisy due to scalloping - and I am somewhat more aggressive with that car!!). At my current mileage the tread depth is good and wear is very even on the XF tires.

Must admit to never getting 40K miles out of any of my BMWs. The most I ever got was 30K on a 1999 528i.

The current tires on the XF have a decent wear rating, but then the ones I had on my MB E500 had a decent wear rating and they were pretty well done at 23K.

Appreciate your input.
