Default TPMS updated parts available, get yours now!

My XF went in today for replacement of a third TPMS sensor.

I have it back with four new ones of a new specification.

See the alarming thread below about the tire failure. "XF tire flys off rim"

I list the details of the new style there.

Fortunately, my TPMS sensors all failed by developing a very slow leak. However, the leak is so slow it is very difficult to diagnose. You need patience and soapy water applied to the valve stem where it is supposed to seal against the rim. Slight foaming means your valve stem seal has failed.

Every XF owner needs to read that thread and then ensure the new TPMS valve stems are fitted to your car.

Holy Crap! That wheel that failed had a slow leak no one could find. It would drop about 10psi in about 12 days. The dealer said there was no leak nad many shops have submerged the wheel in tanks and couldnt find the leak. I just kept air it up every 12 days when the TPMS light would come on.
1 thing I did notice though. The harder I drove it the sooner the light would come on and it would need air.
I paid out of pocket for 2 new rear tires and 2 new sensors since the dealer said there is no warranty at all on wheels and tires. My car only has 28k miles and is a 2009. Everything but brake pads should be covered still ?

That is exactly how the seal on those TPMS sensors fails. An extremely slow leak, very hard to detect until it gets bad enough to show bubbles in a bit of soap solution spread around the base of the valve. Even my tire guy couldn't find it when he tanked it in my presence. He was about to break the bead to feel for finishing nails reaching into the air chamber when I noticed the tiny bubbles.

Now I have a TPMS system error with my new set of sensors. What a crap system this is.

Is there a TSB on this? Can I possibly get reimbursed for what I put out already or get my last 2 replaced under warranty?

Does this issue effect all model years? I have a 2011 XF Prem.

I think so. The updated part looks different as I describe above. If yours look silver and you can see a lot of the threaded shaft of the valve stem ask for replacements.

After two more sensors were replaced I have no fault. So far today anyway.

My dealer is asking me for more info so they can change my sensors to the correct new ones. Anyone have a part number to the new ones?

Check this site out. I think it shows the new TPMS if you select the 2012 model. The 2009-11 are almost the same. The 2012 is Black stem.

2009 shows two that "work the same" and one is $20 more (30%!!!).

The lower one displayed is the one now on my car. The valve stem threads are better protected by a taller shoulder at the rim and a deeper cap at the end. Get yours today, and I do mean today! Those older ones might kill you.

I had the TPMS sensors replaced on my 2010 XF Premium by the dealer under warranty. My concern is dealers that refuse to do a little investigating to resolve a known issue.

BigCat09 you may want to contact Jaguar directly and explain what happened, you might actually get results. Consider servicing at another dealer, if possible.

The part number if you order from O'Reilly auto parts is SE53001. All part stores have universal TPMS sensors. Make sure you get one that is model VDO. I purchased one made from company Dorman which was not fully compatible, leading to the control monitor displaying a fault. Replaced with VDO and the car accepted no problem, no need to go to dealer and have them reprogram or clear out system. One last thing, make sure its the 315 mHz.

This is a Ford standard part readily available. Get OEM, I have had no issues with mine.

I noticed that the original part showed it was manufactured by Ford but when I called several Ford dealers in the area they were unable to locate the part or part number. Figured it would be cheaper from Ford than Jaguar...lol

Aftermarket tire fitters will know the correct part number cross reference. I paid 2/3 what the dealer wanted.

These gizmos are all made in China, probably in one factory!

How did your winters fit? Any TPMS issues? Mine "learned" the new set of TPMS seamlessly, I just drove out of the tire shop without any faults showing up.

That question for me Jagular? I am still driving around with the errors. The original front right error when I got my flat and switched to space saver. Then the the TPMS general error with all 4 snows (with sensors) on. System isn't even getting rid of the front right pressure error!

Did you follow the instructions in the handbook? I forget the page number.

You have to wait half an hour or something like that before driving off and then you have to average at least 40 km/hr for 15 consecutive minutes for the sensor receivers to learn the new sensors. Sounds weird, i know but on mine, I just waited in the tire shop for the wait time (counting from when the fourth tire was mounted on the car) and then just drove off. No issues since, except due to cold weather dropping the pressure. Putting air in all the tires solved that.

Not exactly. But I can say that after having errors all last winter, when I swapped the summers on in the spring the errors went away immediately without anything other than putting them on and resuming normal driving. So I assumed that with the failure again to pick them up with the same routine that there is something else amiss.

Forgive me if I suggest a possibility you may already have thought of .

On my car the tire pressure dropped by about 6 psi from the specified pressure at 10C inside my garage when the outside tempersture dropped to minus 20C. This caused random low pressure signals from the TPMS. I'd experienced one low pressure signal in other winters due to ambient temperature dropping more than 30 degrees from the heated garage temperature but never all the wheels randomly sending error messages.
