Transmission fault; Cruise Control not available

Transmission fault; Cruise Control not available
My 2009 XF started displaying a "Transmission fault...Cruise Control not available" message on start up. When this message is displayed the gear selector does not rise on start up like it should. After waiting for approximately 5 minutes, this message typically clears and the gear selector rises - this may or may not be followed by a check engine symbol, which also clears at some point during the day. Otherwise, the car appears to run perfectly with no noticeable difference in performance - mysteriously, on some days, I don't even get the error message. Does anyone have some insight into what this is about? Would like to know if its an easy fix before the local Jag dealer takes me to the cleaners. Thanks guys!!

When this happens you should turn the car off and lock the doors. Then try to restart it again. If the car operates as normal after that, then it's most likely the battery.
How frequently does this occur? If it's more often than once every 3-6 months, change the battery and see if that works before getting the dealer involved
FYI this happened to me for the first time a few weeks ago and hasn't happened since. Search through the first 2 pages of threads and you'll find my thread discussing the issue

I was only able to get an appointment at the Jag dealership this morning. Explained the issues to them and after about and hours wait the mechanic explained to me that the entire gear selector, including its module, had to be replaced - he said the codes he found, coupled with the complexity of the issue left him amazed that the car actually drove. 3 hours and $1580 later they assured me I was good to go and the gear selector worked perfectly on start up...only to revert back to all the error messages and the stuck gear selector a few hours later Driving back to the dealer tomorrow. Probably didn't even need the 1.5K new gear selector!

Also check the battery voltage to see if the new battery is working as it should. Its outrageous that the dealer replaced such an expensive part and that didn't even sort the issue.

The dealer kept the car for 4 days and finally resolved the issue. On the second day they had the car, they called me and practically said they were at a loss as they had investigated almost every likely component only to have the fault message recur. I finally got an email late the 3rd day stating that the valve body and TCM(Transmission control module) had to be replaced. Since they had misdiagnosed and replaced a part I didn't need the first time, this repair, a whopping $4500, was on them and I was offered a loaner! Picked up the car the other day and everything is working great - fingers crossed.
