Unhappy Two door locks to replace after Flat Battery - Central locking blocked

XF Sportbrake 2013

I had the flat battery --> central locking blocked problem of which there are quite a lot of posts and a 2019 Jaguar technical bulletin 5/7/2019 JTB00545NAS1, about which I knew nothing beforehand.

A garage (not Jaguar) got the car started and replaced the battery, but did not know how to fix the central locking. (Maybe also relevant that at the same time, they replaced a broken wear sensor cable for the rear right brake pad.)

After return from holiday, I took the car to the local Jaguar dealer, who had previously serviced the car. Their diagnostic came back : the keys and the central locking module are OK but there are 2 door locks to replace ,including Door A - the driver's door and , costing all told over 1000 euros in addition to the new battery.

However, there were no problems with the door locks before the flat battery. The central locking and the door locks all worked fine - that's why they were and still are double locked.
The dealer's reply, "This is what the software is telling us. The car is 10 years old. Just a coincidence that the problem with the door locks follows the flat battery. Never heard before that door locks fail after a flat battery or battery replacement"

I find it really hard to believe that there can be no connection between the flat battery, the battery replacement and the jaguar software saying two locks to replace.

Indeed for me the whole situation is bizarre - we are talking about a battery.replacement and the car's software goes haywire.... Why on earth ?

Has anyone else had such problem with the dealer saying to replace the door locks after a flat battery / central locking issue on an XF ?

Is there any workaround for this ? The 3 passenger doors are still double locked.

Am anyway checking with my insurance company to nominate an automotive expert for an analysis - but the Jaguar dealer will just show his software code faults. What could an expert say in face of that ?

Thanks for any advice.

Colin

This might seem unrelated, but do your windscreen washers and rear wiper work ok?

My guess would be IF the above work ok, that it may need the door modules "reprogramming as new" with SDD, then the immobilization procedure running. If would seem a big coincidence for both two to physically fail at once. I imagine they'd have to do some damage to get to them too, as removing the door cards with the doors deadlocked can't be easy.

Also worth checking for water ingress to the CJB ( in the right hand front footwell ) - lots of threads about it search for CJB water ingress, or BCM water ingress.

Hello Phil,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes everything else works. I will anyway order the software. The little smile on the face of the top honcho in the dealer’s workshop told me everything.
I discover however I am an x rated contortionist and at 76 managed to see partly inside the fuse box in the right hand door well. It is dry but the access is so limited I could not pull the fuses in and out to check - especially with passenger door double-locked.
My message to anyone buying a Jaguar : precondition is 10 years of yoga.
Regards,
Colin

Hi Colin,
ah passenger door double locked causing access problems to the CJB, so I take it you're in a country with left hand drive cars.
In which case is it also the case that the only reason the drivers door isn't also double locked is that you opened it with the mechanical key?

That'll be awkward if you need to remove the CJB, as the scuff plate across the doorway, and plate up the side of the dash need to come out to get the cover panel off the CJB ( I suppose it might be possible if you can remove the door card first, but maybe you'd have to remove the seat first ( which has airbags in ). ) At that point if you need to physically remove the CJB, it's probably sensible to break the cover plate in the footwell, and get a replacement from the breakers I suppose.

Hopefully it's a software fix required - at least you'll get to see the fault codes for yourself.

Grande finale
j l r software the soggy wimp in the corner with phantom diagnostics
jaguar dealer "the diagnostics, they say change the locks for 1000 euros and then what else we find - so many €€€€€ signs"

Davy, Autologic specialist, car software extraordinary ( he is in Flanders)
90 seconds - all fixed
Does even not want to be paid.

jaguar dealer "Well we follow Jaguar protocols"and he copies the email to jlr Microsoft.
They make that ! ? Microsoft !
Hey Mr Jaguar dealer, I bring my car for solving the problem, not so that you can tick boxes.
You make yourself ridiculous, you diminish your colleagues and basically accuse your own company of corporate negligence.
Would you like to add or edit something ?
