The Ultimate LED Q&A Thread
#141
So after owning my 2015 XF x250 SV6 for 6 years I finally decided to do some upgrades, including replacing the OEM globes with LEDs (I'm a bit slow I know). Thanks to people on this forum I had no issues with the puddle lights and of course the rest are all quite easy (as long as you are careful not to blow the fuse when doing the vanity mirrors). In the boot I bought a strip of 30 LEDs that is connected to an adjustable festoon adaptor instead of just replacing the globe. I bought the LED licence plate lights off ebay instead of just replacing those bulbs too. The only issue I have not seen resolved on here is the annoying glovebox globe. I am so hopeless I had an issue that nobody else has probably had, which was the plastic lens coming off and then falling behind the glovebox . So now I have to remove the glovebox to retrieve my plastic lens. Fortunately I purchased the workshop manual off ebay a couple of months ago. In the workshop manual it says that the glovebox housing needs to be removed to replace the globe. I have not done it yet, it seems like a bit of a malaki but here are the steps from the workshop manual for anybody who wants to change the globe as the factory intended. Apologies if everybody knows this, but I haven't come across it while trawling the forum.
1. Remove passenger footwell trim.
2. Release passenger side door seal and using a trim tool remove the side panel.
3. Using a trim tool remove the instrument panel trim finisher and disconnect the electrical connectors.
4. Remove the passenger fascia and disconnect the electrical connector.
8. Unscrew the glovebox.
9. While supporting the glovebox release the bulb from the holder by turning 90 degrees. Obviously this is your opportunity to replace the glovebox globe with a LED.
Hopefully this is my opportunity to retrieve my plastic lens.
Cheers
Steve
