USB Device problem

Your lucky it works at all. I've tried 3 different USB drives without any luck. Dealer says there jump drive works fine.... Jaguar should have put more than 10 minutes into testing the USB hookup. Some say you need to buy the cheapest one you can find with no security. Still looking for one that will conform to that. Supposedly the system is picky about the bitrate of the music files as well. Too high and the files won't play.

Does the drive work normally for folders using Roman characters ie. do the folder names display on the screen?

No the folder names do not appear on the screen. Say I have 10 folders and some songs in the root directory of the USB stick it does not show all the folder names. But sometimes if I skip track it can get to the song which is not displayed on the screen?
Not sure it is related to the name of the song since I have tried rename the folders to english names and still not showing them on the screen?

On my car (XF Premium 2010, US model), the only music that shows up is the music in the root. Any folders on the stick are invisible. I am not sure, from your reply, whether some of the folders show up or not in your car. If you are having the same problems as I am experiencing, the problem is not the language (unicode complex languages) but the fact that the system cannot display folders even if the folder names are latin characters, single byte or multibyte.
I also have issues with the fact that the system only supports mp3 despite the fact that the manuals says it supports other standards e.g. aac. Anything other than mp3 is invisible.
BTW most USB sticks are sold without security and formatted for FAT 32. In all cases the sticks I have used and on which I have observed the above have been FAT 32 formatted and not NTFS (proprietary Microsoft), or MAC OS Extended (proprietary Apple).
Hope this helps.

I am going to reformat the SCanDisk 8GB USB stick to FAT32 and copy the folders over to it again. Say I have folder called Janice, Usher, Chinese, Gary Barlow. etc... I only see about 5 of the folder names and then I press the scroll down or next page arrow but I get some that are missing? I will let you know how it goes after the formating and recopying. I do see some folders and can select them and drill down into it and select the songs.
I am wondering if there is a limit to 2 Gb? since I am using 8Gb? Or long filename issues? Definitely it does not support Chinese characters.

OK, reformatting it to FAT32 definitely is better. I can now see all the folders but if the folder is in Chinese it will display as _ or garbage.
Also as someone pointed out it must be 320kbps or below.
I think I have sorted it out now but I need to rename all the folders to English so I cannot listen to foreign music. Please support Double bytes?

*USB device Max. Capacity 256GB
*The audio system will play MP3, WMA, WAV and AAC files.
*The highest compression rate supported, is 320k bits per second (kbps). If anything less than 128 kbps is used, Digital Signal Processing (DSP) functionality may be lost.
*Some MP3 players have their own file system that is not supported by this system. To use your MP3 player, you must set it to USB Removable Device or Mass Storage Device mode (see manufacturer's information for further details). Only music that has been added to the device in this mode can be played via the vehicle's portable audio system.
*Supported file systems: FAT16 and FAT32. Not compatible with Microsoft's proprietary NTFS file system.
*You cannot use a USB Hub to connect more than one audio device to the vehicle.
*It is best to format and use a USB device dedicated for use in the vehicle.
*To my knowledge, double byte character sets are not supported.
Hope that helps.

Best results for USB use in your car are:
*USB device Max. Capacity 256GB
*The audio system will play MP3, WMA, WAV and AAC files.
*The highest compression rate supported, is 320k bits per second (kbps). If anything less than 128 kbps is used, Digital Signal Processing (DSP) functionality may be lost.

I was hoping to find someone else with this issue, but it looks as if I am on my own...
