Unhappy Used Jag XFR - NO key blades

I just bought a used 2013 XFR, which I'm loving so far. The car came with a single FOB, with NO emergency key inside. I realize that I can purchase a new FOB from many sources, have it programmed, etc. but without a single emergency key blade, how do I proceed? Am I correct in assuming that most locksmiths will need one key so that they can duplicate the pattern to a new blank? Is the dealership the only solution here?

Thanks in advance to any information that can be provided. I'd like some ammunition prior to contacting my local dealership, especially, if I have other options available.

I believe that without a key to copy your only option is the dealership. I believe they can order a key blade from the VIN # but it will have to come from the UK if it's anything like Land Rover as that's the only place that has Unobtanium....

Hrm, I was hoping that would not be the case, but I'm not all that surprised. I think the best bet would be to order a single key at the dealership, then have a locksmith cut a second key on a blank. Honestly, I'm afraid of what the dealer is going to change for the blade, but I guess I've already bought into this whole thing anyway.

My best guess is $300 programmed and all. About what I paid for my Mercedes a while back ($275).

For reference: I went to the dealer and bought the key. $112 (for the emergency key blade only). I'll go outside the dealer for a second FOB and key, if I desire a second later. At least I won't have to worry about being locked out permanently.

Also for reference, a new FOB was quoted at almost $350 and programming is another $150. So, $500 in total. This is from Jaguar Austin, in Texas.

ISTR I bought the fob online for about $200 and had JagTechs in Austin pair it for about $100.

I would go and get a second one now. In my opinion you're more likely to get locked out from a mislaid fob than for needing the emergency blade... several folks have done the eBay solution and just had it programmed - but you need to ensure you get the right one...

you need a dealership, your vin and proof of ownsership.
There is literally ONE guy in NewJersey that does them all for America,
Get just one key, have locksmith make duplicates.
