Default Velocity tune on a 2014 3.0 Supercharged

Hi all,

I have a 2014 XF 3.0 Supercharged with 50K miles on it that's in great shape and completely stock. I'm in Maine, USA.

I'm considering getting the Velocity tune to get it up to 416 HP, but I'd rather not deal with changing parts like improved pulleys and belts. I'd love to hear about anyone's experience with the tune on an unmodified XF.

I am familiar with tunes as I had a Polestar tune on my late and beloved Volvo XC70, but I'd love more real-world anecdotes if possible.

Thanks!

I'll be doing the Mina Gallery tune on my 2015 3.0 within the next week, I'll let you know what kind of results I get from it. I'm sure it will be similar to the VelocityAP tune.

I had the VAP tune on my V6 F-Type for about a year, zero problems and a nice boost in power and torque.
But then I added the larger crank pulley and associated tune and it was so much better!
You would think that 416 hp to 450 hp (34 hp increase) would feel much the same as 380 hp to 416 hp (36 hp increase) but no, for me at least the second jump felt and still feels way more than the first jump. As an added bonus the crank pulley + tune released some SC whine while the tune only made no difference.
I put it down to the larger increase in torque especially "under the curve", it is so much more responsive.
That said the tune only is still worthwhile and a very good bang for your buck, even more so if you are starting with the 340 hp version instead of the 380 hp version I started with.

I'm also doing the larger crank pulley with my tune so taking the leap from 340hp to 450hp...I'm expecting a big smile on my face for a long time to come.

Yes, you will develop a big grin!
Maybe even bigger if you go for the new VAP set-up with two pulleys, a new improved no-slip smaller snout pulley with the crank pulley, 470 hp and even more torques!

Thanks

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, and
Torque is how far you take the wall with you

A Velocity Tune, or any tune for that matter (VelocityAP, Mina Gallery, Viezu...) optimizes your cars ECM for performance. The stock 3.0 map is very conservative, as most Jaguar owners are looking for comfort and mediocrity...the tune essentially opens up the capabilities of the 3.0. If you have any modifications (lower crank pulley, supercharger pulley, intake modifications...) you can customize the tune to take advantage of those mods for even more performance. Most of the online tuners will send you a "tuner" box, you download your current map, send to the vendor, then upload the new map into your cars ECM. This is usually done multiple times to find the optimal tune for your needs/preference.

With any of the quality Stage 1 tunes(just software and no parts like pulley's..etc), you will mostly feel the power increase in the mid-upper rpms, that's because from low to mid rpm the power accessible is achieved in the stock file. However, the factory stock file limits the power delivery in the mid-upper rpms to toggle 340bhp/380bhp/400bhp(final stock power dependent on models/version)..think of it like a peak power cap that gets removed when tuned.

Like most will mentioned, when you add the pulley's it will increase power throughout the rpm(low to high). The engine now benefits from more available power earlier on and carries this extra power increased of torque and horsepower to near redline, versus only achieving a power bump in the mid-upper rpms on just a tune.

Nonetheless, you'll enjoy which ever route you choose but the pulley option will always leave you with a grin after pressing that throttle pedal any amount.
