I mis-spoke... Mobil One "suitable for use" vs. meets specs. could be argued, I suppose. splitting hairs???

Check out the Castrol web site though, they recommend Castrol Edge.
Castrol Global

Certainly could argue the Heck out of that, should a failure be attributed to oil...

With all of the former and current techs on this site none of you have an opinion on this??

I understand the current techs not saying much but the guys who are not being paid by jaguar anymore have nothing to lose by weighing in with their experience in this area.

I have free oil changes for the life of the warranty. When it is up, it will be using Castrol's best. I have always used Castrol's best, but any good synthetic is pretty much just as good as the next. I wouldn't buy recycled or generic though. Synthetic is overkill on the protection, especially compared to what dino oil can do.
As far as the warranty, if they find excessive wear or crud, they will call you on it. Otherwise, the engine is going to be very, very clean on synthetic and no one will deny you unless they were a disreputable dealership trying to get over on you. A novice mechanic could tell if you didn't use synthetic or at least changed the dino oil frequently. I wouldn't sweat it unless you weren't using synthetic. And the warranty isn't backed by the dealer. They will get paid as long as the warranty claims validation person, novice mechanic, complains. You spent a lot of money on the Jag and they want your future business. If they don't see excessive wear or crud, they'll do what they can to prevent a voided warranty.

Some people just do not know how to read and comprehend the language. It is not splitting hairs to say suitable for use means meets the spec.

You can spec your Rolex watch shall have 24k gold, but a Timex is suitable for use!

Note:
I am not arguing the suitability of the oil for the application, only whether it meets the spec as required by my warranty!

I think if you did a little research you would find that most engine repairs performed under warranty require a TA to be submitted for review by the Hotline. When a major component such as an engine requires replacement they always requests copies of oil change invoices. The advisor & technician have nothing to do with determining warranty coverage of an engine repair. Your bigger concern should be when you are out of warranty & need goodwill assistance. Were you a loyal customer or someone who only came in for warranty work? Having the dealer change the oil (with the recommended oil) & check the car over once a year will work in your favor in the long run.

Just an update, since I didn't really get the answer I was looking for. According to Castrol website, this is the recommended oil for Jaguar/Land Rover 5.0 V8.

Castrol Recommendation:

Castrol Global

Sold on Amazon:

Amazon.com: Castrol 06242 EDGE 5W-20 Extended Performance Synthetic Motor Oil - 1 Quart Bottle, (Pack of 6): Automotive Amazon.com: Castrol 06242 EDGE 5W-20 Extended Performance Synthetic Motor Oil - 1 Quart Bottle, (Pack of 6): Automotive

I just want confirmation that by using this oil, Jaguar won't deny warranty claims on the engine. I have extended warranty to 2021 and 100K miles, so would prefer not to lose that over saving like $100-150 per oil change.

Ahhhh, the sublime luxury of broad generalizations. You know the old saying, "When you paint with a too-wide brush you always end up splattering on yourself"

That is all well and good but will I glow in the dark at a rave if I paint myself with the oil like the factory recommended oil?

Jaguar dealers no longer use the Castrol SLX oil, they only use the Edge Professional now. So I am not sure if it has the dye in it anymore, but this is just speculation.

Why not ask your dealer? The "techs" on the forum are that... Not business decision makers.
If you truly do not want to violate your warranty (which I do not), then the only opinion that matters is one from the provider of the warranty, and then only in writing. Or the lawyer that will fight your battle for free.

I checked to see what oil they added when my water pump was changed last month it was the SLX (06333) oil on the work order. According to this list the SLX was replaced by the Edge Performance OE (06258)

http://cepresource.com/EDGE_Professi...tion_Sheet.pdf

They may have been using up existing inventory, I found a thread on bobs the oil guy and they mentioned the Edge Professional has the dye in it.

And judging by this I am pretty sure it does

BTW my dealer told me to go buy the gold colored Castrol from an auto parts store.

The link you posted is for the 5w-30 oil, we use 5w-20 in our engines, which once again is really hard to find. Why is the proper engine oil this hard to find in 2015?

I know, my logic is if the 5w-30 has the dye there is a good chance the 5w-20 does as well

Nice list. Has anyone tried a Shell gas station to see if they have or can get the Shell Helix?

I recently spent many hours researching the interwebz for engine oil for my XFR, looking for what was available in Oz which meets the Ford WSS-M2C925-A spec in 5W-20.
Obviously the JRL recommended Castrol Edge Professional A1 5W-20 meets this spec, but it simply is not available anywhere in Oz other than from a dealer, who of course wouldn't sell it to you without doing the oil change themselves and charging you a bomb for the pleasure.
I've used an Oz brand of oil for years, Penrite, and it's good stuff.
Anyway, after consulting the local Penrite techs they put me onto Penrite Enviro+ Full Synthetic 5W-20 which meets 925-A.
I got 2 x 5 litre bottles from my local Repco store for $60 a pop, which is a helluva lot less than I would have to pay for the Castrol stuff even if it was available. See here: http://www.penriteoil.com.au/product...d_products=484
Apparently Penrite oils are available in North America, but not from many retailers.
