Water Pump/Engine Seal

Just got a call from my indy shop that both the water pump and seal have to be replaced. I am little concerned considering my 2012 XFR only has 31,000 miles on it. Are these failure "normal"?
I have an exclusionary extended warranty so not worried about the repair cost but concerned about how quickly it failed.

Thanks. I expected water pump issues but not this early. I owned a Land Rover before and the water pump on that thing went out 3 times over the course of 100k miles. LOL I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

They have failed as early as 10k miles, mine went out around 48k. I would say yours is not surprising.
Hopefully revision four or five which ever they are one finally fix the problem, the newest part # has been posted in this forum and the XJ forum I HIGHLY recommend finding that # and insist on that version.

Received a call from Galpin Jaguar informing me of the exact same thing. They'll be replacing it obviously, but they did mention that it's a common problem with the XFR. In addition, they'll be replacing the the front "nose" of the blower as well. Apparently the water pump was leaking just a bit but needed to be replaced regardless.

Extended warranty approved all repairs. Based on the total repair cost the indy shop thought they would send an inspector out but they did not. The indy shop said that this is the first time they have worked with a warranty company that was quick to approve all repairs and loaner car. They told me I did a good job in picking an excellent warranty company.
I was told it would take about 3 - 4 days to perform all the repairs.
Details to follow on repair work.

Seems our circumstances are parallel. The inspector will be out at the dealer today to verify what can/cannot be covered by my extended warranty. The service manager seems hopeful that most if not all repairs will be covered. So far the only major concern would be the water pump and seal.
