So, I was going to finally get around to swapping out my S/C pulley for a 60.5mm but after removing the belts I am feeling a lot of play. (video link below) Can anyone tell if this is excessive movement compared to standard? I did have the nose cone and s/c coupler serviced/replaced under warranty about 1yr ago. I estimate a 10 to 15 degree movement in the pulley, and occasionally it seems to tighten up a little, but not much. Just wondering the groups experience/thoughts with this.

I did discuss with JLR that did the warranty repair for me and so far I am getting stone walled. They have told me that since it was done under warranty, the coupler then only goes through the regular car warranty period. Which ran out shortly after the repair, even though it's been less than a year. I let them know that sounded like BS and it should at least have a year on it. The manager is out until Monday, so not sure if they will be reasonable or if I'll need to move it up the ladder. I actually had not noticed any performance issues, and it's always been fairly noisy so had I not removed the belt I probably wouldn't have known unless something broke.
Ouch, there should be ZERO play in the SC pulley. Def coupler time for you.
So zero play? My supercharger tension pulley snapped today at the bearings and threw off the supercharger belt on the XFR. I grabbed the pulley and noticed a turning side-to-side movement of around 45 degrees. I take it, this isn't normal?
45 degrees sounds a bit excessive but the coupler is sprung loaded so it designed to allow a little movement. Unfortunately the TSB regarding the issue just says:
"Use the supercharger spring isolator kit: When there is a clunk or knocking noise from the supercharger or if there is significant free play when turning the pulley before the rotors start to turn"
My '10 XKR will be getting it changed shortly because there is a very definite rattle from the supercharger when I turn the engine off.

Checked it again, perhaps 25 degrees of movement before engagement. How much play should there be?
Thank you Bart - I was about to post that! The manual clearly states there should be some play (though obviously only 5° counter-clockwise and 20° clockwise), so people maybe shouldn't be so quick to label the coupler as screwed as soon as a poster mentions any play.
With that said, we know these spring couplers go bad and eventually need replacement, though if I'm honest, I'd probably wait until mine at least felt a bit loose before I changed it out. You can get solid couplers on eBay, which I fitted to mine.
These upgrade couplers prevent you from having to do the job twice .

The slot lenth is the distance a pulley should turn , but should not be sloppy or clunky when you spin the pulley back and forth lightly . And should spring load one direction .
The standard coupler plastic is prone to failing and the spring damages the snout shaft .
I will be getting my coupler changed shortly and have the option of fitting either the solid coupler or a new standard coupler. Does the solid coupler cause any issues given that it takes all play out of the shaft.
I assume that there is play for a reason so I wonder if is it to stop noise from backlash or to de-stress the linkage or something else?
How difficult is it to replace the coupler with the solid unit? My car is at dealer for CPO service and they arn’t sure if it’s covered through the select cpo coverage. They called and said the coupler needed service. No cost yet...

No, and from what GM says the spring loading was done to quiet the supercharger harmonics.

Well the SC has to come off the engine for the coupler, If they do your coupler have them change out your rear coolant crossover and hose while the SC is already off if you have over 60kmi on your XK.

yes the solid coupler amplifies the gear chatter sound from the gears meshing a little .but not too bad . unless your gears are high mileage as mine were .
then quite noticeable but only at idle .
but that is the sound of reliability !
plus jaguar now uses a solid coupler which is black not green . you can buy it from jaguar . its no better than the green powerhouse one . but if your looking for this parts credibility , thats were you'l find it .
and is now the upgrade of choice from the dealer as the plastic ones do not last

there is a thread on this forum , in which one of the forum tech's says him self he only fits the solid upgrade jaguar part as a replacement .
the solid coupler is not solid as such . its gel filled soft nylon and has give .
and seen as the TVS style blower runs the coupler dry and not submerged in oil like the older eaton M112's with the exact same coupler . the plastic one proved to need to be upgraded due to the warranty issues .

Thanks for the info. The warranty company has paid for a new snout from Jaguar so it will be interesting to see what type of coupler came with it.

the plastic coupler is an eaton part , and my guess/bet would be a replacement snout will come from eaton with the eaton coupler . you would have to specify your dis-interest to receive the upgrade ,
Also, the dealer will not "service" the supercharger gear oil when they replace the snout. Tell them you want the oil drained and refilled with new. They will most likely charge you for the oil, but have them do it.
If you have the 5.0 engine, you can only drain the oil by removing the charger.
Call them and ask before the day you plan on having it fixed, because most likely they will not stock the oil.
The work is being done by an friendly Indi rather than a dealer and I dropped a solid coupler off with him weeks ago but it has taken ages to get the snout sorted. We were debating which coupler to use but it sounds like the solid one is the way to go.
A valley hose should arrive next week then I can get him to do the work. A smaller supercharger pulley is being fitted at the same time
