Default What should I pay for this Jag?

Looking at my 5th potential XF as all others have been either too $$$, wrecked, or sold.

I'll give you some specs on the car and then I'd appreciate it of you would give me your opinion as to what is:
A) the most you would pay
B) a GOOD price to pay
C) a steal - GREAT price!

2009 Jaguar XF
Premium Luxury Trim Level
55,000 miles
Personal Lease
Local Trade
Ebony Exterior
Beige Interior with Maroon Dashboard and Dark Wood
All Service Records and Clean Carfax
CPO Select Edition Vehicle

Thanks so much for your advice!!! I think I finally may have found the Jag I've been looking for, just need to know what to pay now!

Thanks for that advice executive. What a coincidence- I actually already saw that one you gave me a link to and I really liked that one, but I called them yesterday and they said that it had already sold... :-(

I think the dealer will end uP wanting me to pay $31,000-32,000...is that worth it given that it's my local dealer, so I won't have to travel 6 hours to get it like I would that one at great neck, and it had the extended warranty and everything? And since I'd be having all my service done there regardless of where I buy a jag from, should I justify a slightly higher price to be on good terms with them and since it's the color combination I favor most, inside and out?

2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged 43,785 miles - Stock #PA4571 - Internet Price: $34,995 - Retail Price: $36,995

I would take a look at this one as well. Seems like it's in your range in temrs of price & location; and you gotta love that its supercharged. I bought mine from this place and thought they were reasonably easy to negotiate with. Hope this helps.

Funny you should mention that one at Jaguar of Chantilly - I was looking at one there today!

I looked at that Supercharged, but to be honest, I don't need the S/C and the color, "Botanical Green" as it is called, is basically the same color as my 2010 Camry, and I don't want twin cars haha.

I was looking at a 2009 XF Luxury in Radiance, with 30k miles for $31,995, but for it to be certified would be $34,995 and they were not very flexible on price. They said that they would include an OEM back-up camera wired to the navigation screen included in the sale price (a $990 value).

I am thinking about that other one...I think the price to get it done will be between $30 and $31k...I don't know if its a "great" deal but it is my local dealership and it would be certified. They're also putting on BRAND NEW TIRES (I can choose between Continental or Pirelli...which should I go with?) and BRAND NEW BRAKES, as well. Not sure if I'm going to go with this, but I love the color. Will try to upload pictures now that I have.

This seems like a good range based on the direct purchase price of cars coming of a lease, purchased from leasing entities (not dealers). A dealer will have likely at least prepped the car and taken car of any cosmetic issues.

WHAT ABOUT THIS ONE? Again, what is a good price range?

2009 Jaguar XF Premium Luxury
Ebony Exterior
Spice Interior
20,033 miles
Cold Climate Package, Advanced Vision Package
Personal Lease
Local Trade
All Service Records and Clean Carfax
CPO Select Edition Vehicle

The Jaguar dealer is asking $35,900. They said they don't mark up their prices very much at all, so there may be a little wiggle room, but "not thousands" in their words.

Of these two, which do you think is the better deal? I also may trade in this Jaguar next summer if I end up moving for work, and then going through this process again :-(, so I would also like your opinions on if I put 15,000 miles on either of these over the next year, what can I expect to get back out of it if either I sell it myself or take it to Carmax?

Thanks-
Arlingtonman

If that's the black one you posted, looks like a clean car.
Is it a good deal? It's not bad for a CPO 09. I have seen the premium models between $31,000 to $37,000 with that many miles on them.
Is it a good deal, when you can get a 2011 for extra $3,000? not at all!

Exec, you make things so difficult for me ;-)

I've ruled out the 2011 for three reasons -

1) I want a Premium Luxury, and that is just the Base Luxury, so it's missing a lot of the amenities that I want in the car.

2) I just can't justify $38,500 + tax for a car that was in an accident. Though it may be minor, its still messed up some pretty big suspension parts and once a car's wrecked, it never runs the same.

3) I'm not a fan of the color. Stupid, I know. But just not what I'm looking for.

So going back to the color thing, I just hate the spice interior so I ruled that out. My Jaguar dealer doesn't know if they can obtain the rights to sell the '09 XF Premium Luxury w/55,000 miles ($31,500) because it's a long story, but to summarize, it came off lease, is owned by the bank that financed it, the bank has it in a dealers-only auction 5 hours away in Philadelphia even though the car is sitting on the lot down here and they can't find the car auction listing any more. My thinking now is "If it's meant, it will work out. If not, better things will come along."

The other option then is a 2009 Premium Lux w/Indigo Exterior, a Leaper already on it (which I want!) and the barley/champagne interior with burled walnut wood. Nice car, no accidents, CPO, 23,000 miles, asking $34,900 (they just reduced - started at $39,900 in November, then $36,900 drop in March, then dropped on May 5 to $34,900 where it still stands). They said there isn't much flexibility in the price because they're already taking a loss on the car, but I honestly feel that's there problem, not mine. Since its sat on their lot for so long, that should tell them something. I think they sound willing to go to $34,000-$34,500, but what do you all think it's worth?

Best as always,
Arlingtonman

P.S. Exec - the pictures on my FlickR stream are of the one w/55,000 miles that has the "long story," not the ebony/spice one w/22,000 miles. Sorry if that was confusing.

Arlington,

I don't mean to. I agree with some of the things you say. You spending all that money, you shouldn't have to buy a car that someone drove into a curb or a car, you don't like the color on.

Keep looking, something will pop up. I gotta say though, the black one was a very nice car. The exterior looked really good.

I know you're not, Executive! :-)

I agree about the black. Turns out it didn't sell yet (in fact, the auction didn't even start yet) and is in a period of "purgatory" if you will, before it hits the auction. I might go see it this weekend. The dealership said that the auction should start in 7-10 days, and I have no clue how long the auction lasts. So we'll see about that one. It needs new brakes and new tires to pass for certification, so they're factoring that in the price. I told them that $31,500 was the most I would go to with certification, new tires and brakes.

I'm keeping the search open in the meantime.

The great thing about being the buyer of a used car is you can walk if you're not satisfied with the deal they are offering you! The dealership, of course, wants you to think that this is a once in a lifetime deal and you'll be sorry if you walk, but they're wrong - I know, I have walked many times and found better deals later, sometimes even at the same place for the same car! :-)

As for how much you should spend on the cars you mentioned, it's a personal choice (mostly). I think you know that around $30k should get you a certified XF with the options you want and the mileage you're ok with. The important thing is to get the one that you are comfortable with.

I've always said that buying a used car is kind of like getting a dog -- you'll know the right one when you "meet" it!
