What year did complimentary maintenance start?

My new 2009 XF Premium is covered under the original factory warranty (4 year, 50,000 miles) until May of 2013. I remember in a 2011 I looked at that all service was included in the original factory warranty up until that 4 year/50,000 mile mark. Was it that way in the 2009 models, or did that not start until later? I'm curious because I know Jaguar maintenance is pricey.

My 2003 S-type had it.
It's worthwhile understanding the true cost of the 'free' maintenance though, being that it's built into the price of the car. Have a look at what's actually required to be done on the car at each of the scheduled visits. Aside from filters and oil and lots of 'visually inspects this' there's not much. Your local garage can do the oil and filter changes at a fraction of the dealer price with equally good quality components - so is there great value in 'complimentary' maintenance?

Not sure if anyone has actually answered your question or not, but from what I understand, complimentary maintenance began with the 2011 cars. I have a 2010 XFR and I have to pay for scheduled maintenance. Scheduled maintenance and the 4 year warranty are two different things (my car is of course still under warranty). I think most cars nowadays have some sort of warranty ranging from anywhere up to 10 years, but some now also include the maintenance with the warranty. Scheduled maintenance includes: Oil changes, filters, Brake pads, brake discs, brake fluid, wiper blades, etc. Hope that helps.

One other thing, as it pertains to what Mikey said. he's right about the free maintenance being "hidden" in the price of a new car, but if you are purchasing a pre-owned vehicle, often the seller isn't "up-charging" you due to the fact that you have a year or two of free maintenance still available. The original buyer ends up eating that cost. Sort of like the initial depreciation of a vehicle. So in your example, if you bought your 2009 XF from a private seller, and there is still time left on the free maintenance, it really is a bonus. Now if you bought it from a dealer, they might still be trying to include it in the price. All that said, your 2009 doesn't have free scheduled maintenance unless you somehow bought the car from a dealer and negotiated it with your deal.
