Unhappy What's up with this code? P0236 PowerTrain Stored Turbo/Super Charger Boost Sensor "

This code comes on normally after about 20 or so miles, sometimes sooner.

Never appears to affect any performance, gas mileage, idle, transmission shifting, so why is it on, and what does it take to get it to be 'fixed'?

P0236 PowerTrain Stored Turbo/Super Charger Boost Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance

Here's the full report I just ran on it ---

If you use Search you'll see what other(s) found and did.

BTW I'm finding it confusing you now have 2 threads about your code(s).

a. saying to search for it is always less than helpful unfortunately.

b. this thread is different from my other 'codes' thread because this code was pre and post all the other 'codes'. This code has been haunting me for about a year, hence I thought it deserved it's own thread.

c. I've searched high and low on the internet and no one that I found had any specific answers, so I was in hopes someone here had a specific 'fix'.

d. I'm going to try to replace the sensor it alludes to, to see if that solves it

I believe that code is for the map sensor. I had an XJR 5.0 with the same code, car ran fine, just kept throwing a check engine light. When you pulled the codes, did you get 2 more numbers at the end or was P0236 all you had? This engine has 2 map sensors, one in the front next to the throttle body and one in the back. Sensor A is the one in the front. Since you posted your VIN, I'll look it up on Topix and get you the code description.

Agreed, I would first check the connector (Un plug and re plug), then clear the code and see if the code stays gone, if not I'd replace the sensor. Your data sheet shows the ECM is getting a reading from the sensor so a wiring issue is unlikely, My bet is on the sensor going bad, since your getting a "Range/Performance" note.
I found

Good luck!

Here is the code description from topix. I actually had an XFR come in today for the exact same issue, with the same code. Remember this engine has 2 MAP sensors. This one is relating to sensor 2 which is actually in the front, next to the throttle body. Hope this helps. I would still try to check some of the other items if at all possible just to rule them out, such as any vacuum leaks, air filter blockage, etc.

P0236-00Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance - no sub type information
  • Blocked air cleaner element(s)
  • Intake manifold air leak
  • Manifold absolute pressure sensor 2 circuit short to ground, short to power, open circuit, high resistance
  • Engine breather leak
  • Carbon build up on throttle plate
  • Exhaust system blocked
  • Manifold absolute pressure sensor 2 failure
  • BARO sensor failure
Check air cleaner element is free from restriction. Check for leak from air intake system, rectify as required. Ensure the engine breather system is correctly installed and in serviceable condition. Make sure throttle blade is clean of carbon. Check for blocked exhaust. Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check manifold absolute pressure sensor 2 circuit for short to ground, short to power, open circuit, high resistance. Check and install a new manifold absolute pressure sensor 2 as required. Check for related BARO sensor DTC P0069-29.

I have the same code coming up. P0236 Sensor A circuit. I have the XFR and two air intakes one left and one right. Which is MAP sensor A? Driver or passenger side?

You are mixing up the MAP and MAF sensors.
MAP = Manifold Absolute Pressure, MAF = Mass Air Flow.
The two left/right sensors near the air filter boxes are MAF sensors.

Thanks for taking the time to post. That is exactly right! I am going to replace the sensor for $113 and hope it fixes it. If not, off to the dealer.

Default finally... fixed.

After several disagreements with the Jaguar Foreman at the dealer -- the MAP sensor, and the TMAP sensor were both replaced, and were NOT the cause in my case actually. I tested by removing the wire connection to them and got different codes.

The problem was that the various vaccuum hoses were old and were letting extra air in and thus was getting a code of overboost.

Replaced all the hoses on top and around the intake, and code went away.

Not before dealer jacked me for 1800.00 dollars for all of the work. They even said I had to get new air filters which was a complete lie. They said that K&N filters were causing it - also a lie.

I know this is an old thread but I am having the same issues and am trying to clear the code P-0236 on my friend's 2010 XFR 5.0 V8 Supercharged. The engine light went away after replacing many parts but has come back so we are bewildered as to what to do next. We have replaced the Supercharger Inlet hose AJ81194 and vacuum hose AJ812350, the MAP Sensor (AJ812337), airflow sensors (x2), O2 sensors (x4), air filters (x2). The mechanic also checked but found no air leak around the engine. The engine light went away, car drives beautifully, but the light re-emerged during slow urban traffic. The hunt for the engine light is driving us nuts...

Backtracking a little, see post and hose pictures at #7 of my earlier thread "No-start, 2010 XFR 5.0 V8 Supercharged, RHD". The original tubes (marked A and B) were of the same type with a white stripe (see picture below)

but the new tube (B) which is Jaguar Genuine Parts (AJ812350) that is eventually fitted has two connector heads (see web diagram below).

Wonder if the new tube is a match with the original one, or there are other issues causing the return of DTC P-0236.

Well there's a chance it's actually a MAP sensor, of which this engine has 2, one on the front of the engine next to the throttle body, and one on the back right corner of the supercharger/intercooler intake.

I had both front and rear MAP sensors replaced along with both MAF. The MAF are different codes. The map sensors were actually fine.

It was all about too much air which was solved by replacing every vacuum/air tube with official jag parts.

4 weeks at the dealership to solve it....

Thanks both. There is no harm done replacing the other MAP sensor since both would be nearing end of life.

Jack: I am more concerned with the vacuum/air tubes. I only identified and named two above. Do you know which other ones the dealer replaced and do you have the parts nos?

Many thanks. So the dealer traced the air leak to the Air Intake Manifold gaskets, and, while at it replaced the air intake temperature sensor and the throttle-to-heater hose as well.

Update: Eventually found the cause of the continuing Engine light and DTC of P0236. The bottom of the factory plastic air-intake duct (the Y-pipe) has an air-leak. Heat in the engine bay must have hastened the aging and degeneration of plastic. Saw a few threads by others eventually finding aftermarket replacements which are not only more affordable but also offer better performance. Saw one in metal being offered by Mina Gallery and wonder what folks' experience with it or other similar products is.
