Default Wheel Alignment Cost

Just came back from a 2450 mile trip. Average MPG was about 25 to 26 miles. The car was just great, even though it is a NA, the acceleration was phenomenal. Had to get by a couple of "I'm not moving out of the left lane" types and the engine delivered.

One thing I noticed was that the steering wheel was not centered, the bottom spoke was pointing at about 32 minutes instead of 30 minutes on a clock. The car's tracking was good, I did not have to work to keep it going straight. I could let go of the wheel and the car tracked as expected.

Anyone know what a wheel alignment on these cars cost? Someone said that it had to be done dynamically and only at a Jaguar dealer. Is this true?

My local dealer said about $180, if I recall correctly. I don't know anyting about what it takes. My steering wheel might be a few degrees off, too, but maybe it's just due to the steering correction required to drive on crowned roads. Not enough to really bother me.

Don't confuse alignment with the steering wheel being centered. That is mainly a cosmetic thing. If the car tracks true then the wheel can be straightened as it is not related to centering the steering nor geometry of the wheels in relation to the direction of travel.

Dealer has my car now for an alignment. The front driver's tire was wearing on the outside. They want $199.

The wheels appear to be tracking okay, so it is mainly a centering issue. I've had the car for about a year and put more miles on it in the last two weeks than the whole period before. It is not a big deal, but after a few hours of driving it just began to bug me. It should be centered and that's what I want. I am due for my yearly maintenance next month and will get it centered then. I was just hoping it was not going to cost an arm and a leg.

BTW, On a open road without any cars around, it is surprising how fast that NA car can reach 110. Not that I would know first hand Just a rumor.

If it was like that originally, and it's obviously out of tolerance (what with the car tracking straight and all), maybe you can talk the dealer into getting it done under warranty?
