hello everyone. i've been lurking here for awhile and this is my first post. i decided some time ago that my post-divorce gift to myself would be a new jaguar and i'm wondering about when i can get the best deal.
i can buy it now or i can wait until the end of the year. when do you think is the best time to get a deal on a 2012 model?
i'm interested in a base XF (white gets the nod over black, i saw that older thread...) and perhaps a supercharged model if i can a good enough deal.
thoughts?
thanks

Typically car sale deals depend on a number of factors: overall supply and demand, manufacturer's incentives (tied to supply and demand), and local dealer's inventory and need to move cars due to local demand or lack of it. If there is a decent supply when the next model year comes out, dealers are typically have incentives to move them by the manufacturer. After watching prices and deals, they will typically become lower and better, as soon as the manufacturer gives incentives to the dealers - they will become better if the dealer must take some profit out of his pocket to move cars. As supply shrinks, deals will not be as readily available. I would say that very good deals would vary from 12-20% discounts from MSRP. I was able to buy my '11 this year, new , with a 20% or so discount. I don't know if that will happen with the '12s due to the improvements. Test the market and monitor. Hopefully you have access to serveral dealers.
Maybe some members can post recent experiences with dealers in your area. That is always better than theory. Good luck.

I started watching XF’s about this time last year. So my history is limited.
At this time last year if you looked nationally (i.e. cars.com) you could find a few advertised 2011 deals on base models that were up to 20% off MSRP. I don’t know if that percentage discount held across the line as I was really only interested in the base. As the 2013’s came out, the number of dealers offering that level of discount increased dramatically. That top level of discount seemed to be the max I typically heard even for those that purchased 11’s thought out the 12 calendar year.
Keep in mind that this year may not be the same as last year. I don’t have a way to get US shipped production numbers vs/or US sales, but I am certainly of the opinion that the US inventory was cut for 2012. Also keep in mind that there was model refresh from 11 to 12 that also may have impacted the motivation to sell on discount.
I used truecar to purchase a 12 in Jan of this year. That got me about 9% off MSRP. So it’s a great service. But you will be limited to regional numbers. If you open up nationally and are willing to go get it or have it shipped, you will probably make up the cost difference for that extra effort.
I would say as soon as you get anywhere near a 20% discount on a “new” XF, buy.

i just saw this article from last week;
2013 Jaguar XF and XJ get new powertrains, all-wheel drive
which is the first release i've seen re: 2013 pricing. amazingly the '13 (albeit with the new and smaller engine) drops to 47k msrp.
i'm guessing that would mean pretty steep discounts on remaining '12's once the '13's are here.
