Default Where did you come from?

This is my first Jaguar and I'm enjoying every moment. I've always liked them but never really WANTED one until I test drove a XF back in 2010. I'm coming from an Infiniti M35 and it was ok. But previously had a G35 coupe that I loved but with three growing boys it began to be a pain for us to get into and go somewhere. The M35 didn't quite have that sports car feeling. Always loved that spirited driving and finally the XF gives me that feeling along with being the family car that I need. So, where did you come from?

I was rockin' my '99 Honda CR-V. :-)

Infinit M's were on my shortlist, but finally went Jag. Couldn't be happier.

Still rockin' my '99 BMW K1200LT, too.

well, my daily drivers consist of in the past 11 months a 2010 Maxima,2008 E63 AMG, 09 Jag XF S/C, 2010 XFR.
In the garage I have a 70 nova SS with a 555 big block, 95 Supra, 08 avalanche for towing and camping and such, 2010 accord for the wife. This XFR is the best one of them all so far.

On my almost to buy list was a M45X, M6, 2011 E63 AMG, 997 Porsche, GTR. The Jag fit the bill perfect in the end.

-98 SVT Contour
-99 Mercury Cougar (Modified: 350whp)
-Many more SVT Contours I fixed, drove, and sold (15+)
-02 X-type
-06 Audi S4
-09 XF SC

I still own the Cougar for winter duty. I had it when I met my wife and she wants me to keep it. I learned quite a bit from the Cougars/Contours so now I run a website that sells custom Ford 3L DOHC V6 motors for Contours/Cougars/Mazda 6's.

I sold my 2008 BMW 550 to buy a 2012 Portfolio Sport. Mixed feelings thus far. The build quality on the Jag is not as good but the Jag rides better and definitely looks better.

Brazz, your comment is interesting to me as I was considering a 550 before buying the XF SC. What about the build quality is irking you? I'm totally happy with my car so far and hear mixed things about the BMW's reliability too.

I drove a 2000 Honda CR-V for a few years but the first car that I could truly call my own was a 2006 Pontiac Solstice. I had installed a supercharger into my Solstice and it went from 177HP to 300HP. It was an amazingly fast car but it wasn't very practical.

I bought that new and drove it as my daily driver until 2009 when I bought a used 2006 X-Type. I had wanted more room than the two seater convertible could provide so a sedan was a nice upgrade since now I had a trunk I could put a whole suitcase inside. The X-Type became my daily driver up until last weekend where I bought my used 2012 XF.

I drove a 2009 XF back in 2010 and ever since then I knew I wanted one. It had all the speed and handling characteristics of my Solstice plus it had the practicality of my X-Type. The day I realized I wanted the XF more than to hold onto my Solstice I sold it the next day. I'm back to one car again and sometimes I miss the convertible experience. That said, I drove more with the top up then down so I'm happy now with just a sunroof and a 5L V8.

I came from a 2009 VW Golf TDI GT as the lease was up and I wanted a change and since Jaguar had released its XF 2.2D SE, which I could afford to run that's the way I went.

Sorry I'm not a Jag owner currently but Im still shopping. Anyway I do own a BMW and the one thing that I just cant get past on the "older" XF's is that some of the controls look like they came form a mid 90's Lincoln. The BMW's leather work seems a little more precise but overall and in general I think they are pretty much on par with each other. My BMW has been near bulletproof but some of the DI cars do have issues with carbon and the HPFP.

@ChiTownXFSuper

Regarding the build quality - I've had a lot of issues with creaking doors in my 2012 XF. I'm taking it back tomorrow for the 6th time. The car doesn't seem as "solid" as my 550. I never had any issues with my BMW. I was lured by the styling of the Jag. The creaking doors have really ruined my overall experience with the car.

Came from BMW (11 BMWs in 20 year with the odd foray into MB) and will probably go back to them because I am looking for a more fuel efficient car in my next vehicle.

The Jag is a beautiful car to look at but the build and assembly quality is not close to the BMW. I look at the centre console and see the misaligned surfaces, the creaking buttons, rattling upper console switches etc. and then look at a new 5 series and the Jag is just not as good which is a shame. I have owned 7 5 series and they have been very well made and I can honestly say that they have been very reliable and trouble free (something I cannot say for the Z4 we own and X5s I have owned in the past). So BMW are not perfect in any respect, but this XF is simply not assembled very well.

I would have thought they could figure out creaking doors by now, my parents 09 XF has always had a creaking passenger door, probably has been to the dealer 10 times for that issue, they can never fix it.
