Default XF 2013 Trunk won't open

hey everyone, first of all i looked through hundreds of different posts online and the forum. And i can't figure out how to fix my issue.

I took a video explaining what's happening and what I've done. Basically the key fob, the button inside the car and the button outside the trunk, won't open it and also there aren't any noises when I try pressing the fob button. I changed the Actuator motor thinking that was the issue and that didn't change anything. The car has been serviced by the dealer since I got it (warranty) and there aren't any signs or broken wires or anyone messing with the harness in the trunk. It just stopped working one day after closing it and i can't lock the car because the computer shows the trunk it's still open.

Any advise or should I try getting a different latch mechanism as i ask on the video?

thanks in advance!

Can you open the trunk with the emergency key blade?

Maybe there’s something at this link that will help?

Yes I can open it with the key, but not with the fob

The latch has a sensor in it that tells the car if it's open or not. For the other latch modules they pull a signal line to ground when the door is closed, the diagram isn't that explicit for the trunk latch. I suspect that your fault is one of the following:
  1. The sensor isn't working
  2. Sensor ground line or signal line is broken so the car never gets a closed signal
  3. Locking module is faulty
  4. Poor ground connection
I would put a small amount of money on a broken wire. There's 3 harnesses involved in the trunk lid wiring:
  1. The trunk lid harness that runs around all the electronics in the trunk lid, this is the thing you can see in your video. This goes to a connector in the trunk lid near the hinge on the right hand side.
  2. The trunk lid to RSJB harness, this goes from the rear junction box to a connector just above the junction box on the right hand side of the trunk. If you pull the trunk lining down a few inches you should be able to see it.
  3. A link harness that goes between those two harnesses via the trunk hinge.
And I'd put my money on this last little bugger. It's notorious for breaking, you seem to get about 5-6 years from this harness before something in it breaks. You won't be able to see the broken wire because it's inside the rubber hose. To test this unplug the hinge harness from the trunk lid and the connection to the RSJB then do a pinpoint test with a multimeter. Measure the resistance along each of the wires, from memory it's a simple link harness that goes from pin 1 to pin 1, you should get 0ohm, or there abouts, on all of them. Don't use a continuity test with the meter as there might be a flaky connection with a high resistance which is enough to make the meter beep but not within the operating range of the car electronics.

If it's this link harness it's trivial to replace, you just need to make sure you get the right one e.g. with or without the camera connection depending on what you have fitted.

Thank you for the advice. I got a new (used) harness from eBay and swapped it, and it worked. Then I tested the bottom right connector wires with the new one and boom it worked!

Thank you very very much!
