I have a 2011 Xf Premium 5.0L NA purchased on May 15, 2010; the oil change service light came on at 14,000 miles (4-11-2011). which was earlier than the 12 month timeline. As of today I have 27,250 miles and the service reminder has not come on. I would conclude it is the earlier of miles or months.

I was told, and the car behaves in this manner, that it is 15,000 miles or 1 year whichever is the sooner.
Since I do less than 15,000 miles per year, mine is triggered after 1 year, but it is 1 year after the car was delivered to the dealer and run and not 1 year after delivery to me. Hence, I took delivery 1 August but the car was delivered to the dealer in May and my annual reminder date is May and not August.
The MB I had looked at driving style and other environmental factors to determine when the oil needed changing, so the oil change was not just dependent on elapsed time or mileage, though I am sure that is part of the algorithm for computing when an oil change is needed. For BMW the same applied except that if the oil change prompt has not occurred within 1 year, they ask you to get the oil changed (it is paid for in their service/maintenance arrangement that is included as part of the cost of the vehicle).
For the other more complete inspections, I am not sure what Jaguar does. I think they base it on number of years. MB and BMW let their service interval calculators do the work and they can take years to appear. I have a Z4 that had had only oil changes for 5 years before a full inspections was requested by the car and the MB E500 went for 22,000 miles before it requested a full inspection.
