Default XF 5 liter engine efficiency

Here it goes.....

I had to drop of my '12 XF portfolio for service and they gave me a brand new Chevy Malibu as a loaner.

Car 1 - When i got the Malibu the average read 22.5mpg. After four days of the throttle getting acquainted with my right foot, it went down to 20.3mpg and stayed there. (Specs - 2.4l turbo four. About 200hp and weight is at 3500 pounds).

Car 2 - I have also gotten a Mazda 3 in the past from a different dealer which averaged about 23mpg.

Car 3 - Lastly, i got to drive a Prius a few years ago and averaged 25mpg.

How does EPA approve the gas mileages that is advertized on all the cars above? It has to be down a hill, getting towed by another car....

The Malibu is supposed to be around 36mpg.
Mazda i am not sure off, but should be about 30mpg.
Prious should be in the 40s.

Anyways, just want to conclude my post, applauding the mpg i average with my 5 liter 385hp engine in a car that is over 4000 pounds. Which is about 18.9mpg. Amazingly good, compared to the econocars above.

haha Hummer is the only thing i liked from GM, still do!

My last car was a 05 Lincoln LS with the 3.9 liter V8. I used to average about 18.8.....basically same as the XF. BUT, the XF has extra 100hp and gets slightly better fuel economy. I have gotten up to 19.5 in the XF mostly around town, stop/go traffic.

The efficiency of the engine really amazes me on the car, considering the amount of power it puts out.

Same here.

I have a 2010 PL and I have gotten it to average as high as 29.7mpg on a trip down the NJ turnpike. OK, I had to hold it to no more than an indicates 72 or so...

On a typical mostly highway run to Poughkeepsie, NY and back (I live in Englewood NJ) I averaged 25.4 driving like my usual madman self. Took the thruway up and back roads on the way home.

Astonishing seeing as the car is as fast as a X308/X350 XJR
