XF Door Lock Won't Engage

My front passenger door lock won't engage! Well, the door seems to respond when locking it from the fob, or manually, but the door is still able to be opened from the outside in the locked position (triggering the alarm). I have tried removing the door card and everything seems intact. I can hear the lock responding when I press the lock button on the dash or key fob. I have also noticed a few posts on this, but none seem to address the issue for me. Thanks in advance for any feedback on this issue.

So just to be clear... when you go inside the car and are siting in the passenger seat, and manually push in the lever to lock the door... a person standing outside the car can just open it normally?
In that case sounds like there is a mechanical issue going on with the door locking mechanism...
I had an issue where the door locking solenoid would no longer engage the locks, and that was solved by simply exercising the lock manually a dozen or so times, but that doesn't sound like your issue.

I have the same problem from my rear left. However, I know what happened. My Moms friend, an older lady tried to open the door when I activated the lock mechanism. I'm pretty sure a locking clip on one of the door rods has snapped off or broke. Too lazy to check right now but it happened on my XJ8 before.

So, a little update: gearbox is down off the car. All checked and fine. New A drum was well installed. Issue was the torque converter. It broke without warning ! Not commun at all. There was no noise before, no shuddering, no slipping between gears... Engine was weak and I could hardly reach 100 KPH but for me that was more about the lambda sensors... I'd say the only sign of that torque converter weakness was the muddy oil found inside the box. But that's it. So, problem solved. I took the opportunity to upgrade the oil pressure regulator valve and change the speed sensors to be safe.
One thing to know out of this experience: a torque converter can die instantly after an oil change...
