XF gear selector replacement
If you are doing the jaguar accessory upgrade, you'll need these two parts.
This is what they look like out of the packaging.
The instructions recommend inserting a screwdriver and hammering it in until it comes off. The small screwdriver fits in nicely into the gap between the button and the knob.
Prying it up far enough to get a second screwdriver under and then work around until the adhesive gives.
The removed cap. You can now access the T-20 screw that holds it in place.
The T-20 bit.
Inserted T-20 bit.
The removed screw with the gear selector up to make removal of the know easy.
Everything removed, ready for re-assembly. Note the top if the shaft has teeth like a gear with one tooth missing. You need to line that missing tooth up with the pattern on the inside of the new knob for it to sit firmly on top of the shaft.
The knob should slide easily on the shaft. Just place it on top with the missing tooth lined up. It should feel somewhat firm atop the shaft and not wobbly if you have lined it up correctly.
The knob in the down position for screw and cap installation.
The screw installed. Note that the screw does not appear to be seated, but it is. Do not over tighten the screw and strip the shaft.
The leather cap with paper sticker cover in place.
The sticker cover removed. Simply press in place. There is no right or wrong orientation of the leather cap.
The installed cap in the down position.
The cap and selector in the up position.
The old selector and cap. Note the slight marring on the edge at 7 o'clock form the screwdriver. There does not appear to be a way to avoid this. The cap is aluminum and very soft.
