Default XF key fob issue

Hi chaps

i wonder if anyone can help at all with an issue I’m having with my spare key fob.

it’s an 08 and the problem is that it seems that the car isn’t receiving the signal from my fob. If I put it into the slot it’s fine but just not the remote aspect. I have checked the battery, made sure that it’s the right way round, changed it with a new one and it’s the same. I have checked all the contacts and it’s all good (including the little contact that can bend over and even lose it’s solder to hold it in place - so it’s all good. I even sent it off the autotronics.co.uk and they have confirmed that it’s working perfectly.

so this is where I am - very confused! Does the fob need registering? But then the car does recognise it in the slot, so maybe not?

I appreciate any help.

Many thanks

Kevin

The key has 2 different operations, the bit with the battery opens the doors, turns off the alarm etc. Built in the key is a transducer that bit connects with the ignition to start the car, thats why putting the key in the slot or on later cars holding the key under the column shroad, the car will start.
In your case either the key is not working or the car is not seeing the key, I think it would need Jag software (SDD) to re-programme the key.

Thanks John for your reply, that helps so again cheers. Do you know if that is a costly exercise? Is it a Jaguar only thing or are there people that can do this option?

Thanks

Kev

Would appreciate an answer to this question, as my wife is having the same problem with her 07 XK. We just replaced the battery in the fob, and it worked okay for about a week, but on the way to work this morning, she texted me that she got a message that she needed to put her key into the slot (while she was driving) in order to connect with the key fob.

So it's your spare, have you ever tested it before?
