Default XF restricted performance and eml - sorry, I'm a newbie!

Hi all, yes I'm a newbie, not to forums but to this one yes.

Recently bought my first jag having owned mercs and saabs in the main and i do like it but today, i hate it !

Its a 2008 2.7d with 70k on it. When I bought it it had only about 200 miles since service and mot in march. I have put abot 250m on it.

Drove to work today and after a mile the rp triangle kept flickering on and off, csr was driving fine and it cleared.

Coming home again a mile in same thing then eml came on. And has stayed on, won't clear after three re starts. The rp light flickered on then went off.

Now I was low on fuel yesterday and put bp ultimate diesel in it. Not saying that's it but I'm a bit stuck. Any ideas ?

Callan, before we can provide some useful information, we ask that you get the codes read on the car. This will give us a starting point as to what is wrong with the car. Your problem could be something as simple as bad fuel, but could be a high pressure fuel pump, failing MAF sensor, etc. Once you get the code(s), post them here (just the letter and 4 digits). I say to only give us the 5 character code as some readers do not give the correct interpretation of the code as it relates to a Jag and I would hate to start off with people being misled.

Thanks for the reply. Tried to use my odb reader but it won't connect, which is not helpful. Will see what I can do.

Welcome to the forums Callan1967,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X250 forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

As suggested above, reading the codes is the first essential in troubleshooting this problem.

Try another OBD tool, they're VERY cheap.

If that also fails, debug the wiring etc.

I fell ya, saabs here as well and jags as my side bioch,, because they are hot, but can be a total bitch at times.. Saabs, not so much ( have had 9 over a million miles worth)

Also check the battery, lots of weird things from a battery in a poor state

As this is a diesel (you state 2008 2.7d), you will probably have more luck on the UK-centric forums, as there's diesel-specific things that can cause this, such as boost leaks and EGR etc.

As others have said, getting the codes read should get you the answer.
