Pirelli W240 Sottozero (255/35R20 and 285/30R20). On the XFR I had to use 20 inch wheels (to clear the brakes) so I just bought a new set of the same wheels that came with the car. These worked great but generally you should use the smallest diameter you can get away with!

My dealer gave me 4 Blazziak winter tires with the sale. Since we just bought the car I cannot tell you how it performed, but I can be sure that these monster tires will help.
I have been an AWD fan for many years, the XF is my first non-AWD car in quite a while. My reasoning is that living in the Mid-Atlantic, we usually do not see very much snow at all, I am not counting last winter, so this car should be fine for 90% of the year. So far it is a wonderful "toy". Hope this helps.

The XF is excellent in winter. The handling is truly outstanding and the traction is superb.
You won't match all wheel drive but it comes close.
I use the "winter mode" plus the "TRAC" setting on the DSC.
I have four Pirelli Sottozero snow tires. The all seasons are inadequate for winter.
I live in Calgary which is further South than Edmonton and warmer....8-).

I've never driven or rode in an XF in snow however there are great videos online showing it's capability despite being RWD. In Fact on JaguarUSA site their is a great clip showing an XF to calm the fears/ concerns of potential Jag owners. As I'm sure that this is a concern for customers and salespeople in the Midwest and Northeast regions here in the states. Also check out this link on Youtube if you don't trust Jaguar's corporate video on their site.

I have a 2010 Premium 5.0 that came with 19" ContiPro Contact all-season tires. With the Winter Mode on, it was pretty good in light snow last winter. Those who have complained about XF snow performance seem to have 2009 SC models with 20" summer tires. If you want great winter traction, you need to get four 18" snow tires on separate rims.

ive taken the liberty of driving my XF in heavy snow this past winter.....the first night wasnt good.
I had an AWD G35 at the time, and i decided to laugh in the face of mother nature and keep it home, i ended up getting stuck in deep snow with the XF and a lot of pushing was involved.
I was unaware of the proper procedure to get it into winter mode (with trac off), i looked it up the next day. After putting it in winter mode, driving on a little ice wasnt a big deal.
Is the XF superb in the snow? absolutely not. My Vanded Plas never had an issue and never got stuck. But putting in winter mode with trac off makes a difference, especially as opposed to JUST putting in winter mode

If you were using the summer tires on either car you would get stuck. if you had snow tires or even all season tires on the XF you should not get stuck unless you high centered the underside of the car.
The "winter" setting is a simple single press of the appropriate button with the snowflake on it. Do not also disable the DSC but just press that button once also so that TRAC appears on the instrument panel. Then drive normally.
