XF test driver tomorrow, Friday

Local main agent has invited me to test a Jaguar, so tomorrow, I'm going to try out an XF, probably the diesel as I have no experience of them, and as I am about to go onto a pension, the fuel consumption, (lack of), attracts me, Petrol is now over £6 a gallon here in the UK and the Government could not care less as we have no democracy here, it is a dictatorship with a small, (tiny, even), elective element.
If I get the chance, I shall try the new XJ if they'll let me.
As I have not had my current X350 for 12 months yet, I'll probably leave off buying anything for a while. Car is only on 41k after all, dammit !

Well, today I got my chance to test two XFs, both diesels, 3 litre V6 Turbos To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement. To me, (of elderly years), diesel engines have always been nasty, clonky, things best left to trucks and railway locomotives, but NO MORE !!
Guys, this engine is incredible !!! The takeoff was far, far, better than my XJ6 3 litre; 60mph in the wink of an eye, 90 mph before you know it, and still going. (BACK OFF, Mitchell, there are cops all around these roads < in South Manchester>).
The performance was just awesome, and this was the "cooking version". So when I got back they let me try the twin-turbo version. Well, what can you say; it has to be as fast as the 5 litre V8. This car is quick, quick, quick !!!
And all this for a fuel consumption of about 30 mpg around town, 50 on a long run and 40-45 overall !!
Right now, I'm working out how to convince the missus we need one of these cars. I think the lower Road Tax and fuel consumption are the killer arguments. Damn it, her VW New Beetle uses more fuel for an engine that wont pull the skin off a rice pudding.
You guys in the USA dont know what you're missing.

The other thing I found out is that there is to be a slight restyle of the XF front end to make it look more like the XJ, so the grill will become more prominent.
Also it was announced recently that the 2.2 litre 4-cylinder diesel is also to be made available for those people that like the car, but don't want a lot of performance. Mercedes, Audi and BMW all sell their mid-range cars with a 4-cylinder diesel as one of the engine options. It will cover more of the market for Jaguar for up-market saloons and more sales are essential right now.
