XF versus BMW

If you want to be another ***** in a BMW, go buy a BMW. It's always the BMW / VW euro crowd that is acting the fool at our local car shows, getting into revving contests, burnouts, racing out of the lots, etc. They are also a dime a dozen in any somewhat affluent area, even the M class and higher end models.
Jags are more exclusive, perform extremely well, and have a more comfortable ride from my experience. I see more Teslas now around town than I do Jaguars. They fit my personality a lot better and I think that's the reason why a lot of people choose Jags (more increasingly so)...they appreciate what it is and don't want to drive the same car that 4 of their neighbors in the cul de sac drive.
One thing I will also add, power and performance numbers are fine, I get that more than anyone else being a horsepower junkie. But having lived with this car for two years and a number of other high performance cars...those numbers really only matter on the track. Any high performance coupe or sedan is going to have way more speed potential than is legal or mostly usable on the street. So you can get into a horsepower e-peen war on jalopnik as much as you want but the reality is that the XFR is more than enough car for 99% of its users, as is the M3 or M5 or any other performance-monikered model

So when and if the new Jaguar XFR/XFR-S is released, all that I and others are asking is for this model to outperform the M5 on all counts, since there is not going to likely be many made available then go that extra mile and make them "really", "really" special.
Hyperbole perhaps

I'll make a big assumption here and say that you want a Jag that is faster in a straight line, generates more g's in a corner, brakes better and goes around a circuit faster than an M car. Well, sorry, I don't think you are going to see that happen, for a whole load of reasons, some good (Jag fully understands where its strengths are) and some bad (Jag has no money compared to BMW).

Having had a 330xi, 540i, 550i, and 335i, and now the XF SC.... I don't know. I could go either direction really. My BMWs had more options and cool little features (I'm a sucker for features). Both the BMWs and the Jag have good quality too (My XF has more miles than my others did, so I'm giving a little bit of leniency on some of the squeaks and rattles I've had to find and fix). The Bimmers felt better in the corners, but the XF feels better on the straights. I love the supercharger and I would easily say my XF looks better than any of my old BMWs. So really, for me, it would come down to the individual condition and price. That's really the only thing that had me in this XF and will be the thing that decides what my next car is when that time comes.
When my wife and I had our second kid, we seriously wondered if we could possibly love it like the first. He's just such a cool kid. As it turns out though, you don't have to sacrifice enjoyment of one for the other. I'm completely satisfied with loving my BMWs and XF at the same time. Subjectively, they both have aspects that I love.

2009, unfortunately. Not entirely sure what good dynamic mode does me without the adjustable suspension, but I drive with it on all the time anyway!
