XF Windshield Glass Replacement Recommendations
My 2012 Jaguar XF needs to have its windshield replaced and I do not know which glass to replace it with. I am in contact with an installer that does replacements for dealerships including a Jaguar Dealership near by.
He has advised the following 3 options and his opinion on quality and price:
1. Original Jaguar Pilkington Glass with the Jaguar Logo (95% Quality) - $1500
2. Pilkington Glass (90% Quality) - approx $1000
3. FYG (Fuyao) Glass (85% Quality) - approx $700
Note: The Jaguar Pilkington glass would have been 100% but he said now all the glasses from Pilkington have distortion on the passenger side. Even those on new F-Paces.
I am leaning towards #2 because its Pilkington but he also said FYG is really good and wont have that distortion problem.
I am thinking FYG because its cheaper and I do not know how much longer I will keep this car (within next couple of years) and there's no distortion in the glass. He said the electrical heating wires are not full heating just go to the bottom where the wipers are.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks

Is you windshield heated? Make sure they understand that when you're talking with them?

@pab has a good point.
I think previous owners ( or whatever technician cheap out on re-doing things on this car for a sale ) didn't know the difference and installed a non-heated windshield on my car.
So now I have the feature... but no means basically.
Unless, all come with this feature but whoever installed it on the car screwed up things... :/
The only way to defrost my front-windshield is the old way... blast it with air.

Thank you for the responses.
Yes he knows that it is heated with wires. The FYG glass only has wires at the bottom he said and not the full windshield.
I will ask him to confirm. I find the heated wires in the windshield are a really good feature - when my windshield cracked I cudnt use it and then waited so long for the windshield to clear up. He mentioned it is just an electrical connection that provides voltage to the wires to heat it up.
Also since our glass don’t have lane keep assist cameras behind them then it’s cheaper. Our next cars with all those sensors will have more expensive glass replacements.

My 15 had its shield cracked a week after I got it last year, My glass installer went thru 2 different shields before ordering a Pilkington It actually looks better than the OEM glass did and everything is exactly the same as far as blacked out areas, etc. Key to me is to make sure you got a good glass guy who will stand behind their work and won't put crap on but it sounds like you aready found a good installer.

I went with FYG glass which to me was worth the buck. Some quality issues I noticed was the heater connectors are slightly exposed on one side of the outside glass sides. The connector wires are in a yellow tape like thing so it’s not exposed wiring but it is more a cosmetic issue. The rubber seal didn’t cover it fully so you can see it a bit if you look carefully.
The inside glass is great and heated windshield lines are in the majority of the glass but not as “full” as the original Pilkington glass.
I haven’t tested a real world test of the heated windshield yet so I’m hoping everything works great in the winter...

I went with the original glass because I heard the heated window coverage was not as good with the others
My installer Safelite got it for $1100 Charged to insurance just $250 to me. Looks ot be $1100 at the dealer list price, not sure where the OP got 1500
I found the original for $882 here through a few dealers ($1100 is list) not sure how much you save with KYG https://www.luxuryautopartshq.com/v-...***-windshield
