It's interesting to look at the XF. There have been so many engine options available and engine changes haven't necessarily coincided with new bodystyles.

Here's my 2cents. I have my 2010 XF Portfolio 5litre 2 years and have had no issues other than a couple minor cosmetic issues. This car is as reliable as any car I have ever owned and none of them were nearly as enjoyable to drive as my XF. I do like the new headlights on the 2012, however I think the redesigned buttons on the radio and A/C look cheap compared to those on my 2010. Not to be overlooked is the fact that older models will likely be cheaper than newer models.

Not many votes for the 09 MY so I'll add my two cents. We enjoyed the 09 and that was the only year to have the 4.2 liter V8. As someone else mentioned, great sound and although it was no rocket ship, with about 300 hp, it seemed adequate (I've now gotten spoiled with my XJL SC with 470 horses). If you are looking at a 09 or 10, check to see if the water pump and the transmission coolant line were replaced, check the leather dash for rippling near the center speaker grill and finally, make sure all the LEDs work in the tail lights. Great car, you will enjoy driving it.

Agreed. While I like the feel of the newer buttons, they just don't look as sleek and sexy as the older ones. They look like they could be in a Honda.

Another issue to look out for or listen for is the supercharger torsion isolator.

I had always heard the rattling sound but I had no reference if it should sound like that (bought used) so I let it got for a few months. I then stumbled on this thread in the XKR section. Not only does this effect the 5.0 supercharged engines but also the CTS-V super charger. I had mine fixed under warranty today.

Are you sure? I only see that the 2011 model had a 5 year/50K warranty. While all the other years had the standard 4 year/50K miles one.

Lol. Same thing for me!! Really turned me off of the newer engines. Tried to trade up three times and backed out each time when I drove newer car again!

I took up an optional 2 year extension to the factory warranty when I bought it.

XKs still have a N.A. 5.0. I'm planning on shopping for one when my S-Type is ready for replacement.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car
Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, and
Torque is how far you take the wall with you

That's why the new XF must have V8 engine options.

Hey folks. New here and just got a azurite blue 2012 certified XF 3 days ago. After driving the 13 v6 Awd and being pretty sure I would get it it just took the first 10 min in the V8 and I was sold. The 2012 I think has the best combo of the upgraded looks ( could not really get into the way the headlights in the previous models looked) and the driving feel. its also probably the best value for money right now. Around 32-34K will get you a certified with fairly low mileage, a year of service included, 3 more years of warranty. Top three things on my list...someone in NJ to paint the calipers ( look rusted but after all the research it was only a visual thing and I'm thinking bright canary yellow ), a nice set of rims and a knob shifter top.
