Default Yearly occurrence strikes again - Battery

Owned the car for 18 months, replacing the battery again.

Car can't sit overnight without a trickle charger on it.

Carfax shows this car has had a new battery at least every 18 months.

At least the CPO/battery warrenty so far has paid for it.

Now the drivers door key lock cover does not sit tight anymore (rattles around), will ask the dealer to see if that is covered under the CPO.

They are coming to pick it up Wednesday, needs the yearly service done anyway.

In what ways the battery failure manifests itself?

Just asking because my 1 year old battery in my XJL was replaced by the dealer after testing it. I took it in due to the frequent "low battery warning"

The car with the new battery is doing the same. Getting lots of low batt. warnings but, it will start OK. When I left it at an airport for 3 weeks it also started fine. It looks like most of the battery warnings are due to the huge current draws that a simple open door produces. All I have to do with my new battery is to open the door 2 - 3 times and that is enough to produce the warning. I have to add that I have all interior lights turned off so as to not draw current when the door is opened.

This battery is a 6 year warrenty Interstate installed by the old dealer (was shuttered).

I just got my car out of storage Thursday. Had the car on a trickle charger all 3.5 months it was in a heated garage. It started up with only a tiny huckup.

Drove it all day Friday and Saturday, about 100 miles. Sunday it was snow flurring so I left it in the garage. Went out to go to work today, about 30 degrees outside, and the doors unlocked fine, trunk opened up fine, but as soon as I hit the starter button, everything clicked dead.

Had the big 10 amp charger on it all day and it started after work.

Won't hold a charge more than a day of sitting.

So, it is in the garage now with the trickle charger on it for the night.

If I wanted to plug my car in every night, I would have bought an electric car.

BTW, I have never seen a low battery warning. Just dead.

How long was it in storage? When you put your car in storage, you're supposed to disconnect the battery if you don't want to kill it. Keeping it on a trickle and connected to your car probably killed it. When I went to Iraq, I disconnected my Honda's battery and left the car in an outside storage lot for 8 months. I came back, connected it and it started right up.

From your description it is definitely a dead battery, likely with a single shorted cell.

An other possibility is that something is draining the battery, FAST. You should get a cheap DC ammeter and use the 10ADC scale to connect it in series with either the Neg or Pos battery post and see how much current is flowing with everything shut off and the car locked. If it is more than 0.05-0.1 Amp, that means a battery drain from some sneak circuits.

My gut feeling is that you just got a bum battery with a bad cell. Your trickle charger also may have ruined it, if the charger's automatic shut-off feature did not work properly.

Got the car back today.

New battery.

But here is the kicker, the "shuttered" dealer (Lujacks of Davenport) that installed it back 14 months ago installed the wrong sized battery. And according to Jag of Peoria, installed the negitive battery cables wrong and that most likely caused the battery failure.

Oh well, fixed now. Also yearly service done along with a new drivers door lock cover clip. The old one broke for being removed some many times.
