Default ZF 6HP28 Torque Threshold

Hi Gents,

I believe the 6-speed XF 6HP28 is supposed to hold a maximum of 550 ft/lbs of torque but does anyone know if this is underrated? The reason I ask is because as I move closer to that number with modifications, I very nervous about how much the tranny can hold before slipping. I already have the usual mods - pulley, tune, intake, and downpipes. I just purchased the Aquamist W/M system and plan on adding a crank pulley.

Just curious if anyone has cross researched the 6HP28 with other platforms to see if it just might hold more power?

There is an absolute torque limiter in the 6HP28 TCM of 820Nm, it will shut things down if that number is reached. So you could say that's where ZF thinks it will definitely break.

But there are other torque limiters in play in the PCM that will intervene long before it will get close to that.

And to be honest, with the Denso PCM you're not even going to get over 700Nm unless there is a real wizard doing the tuning.

Thank you for the info. Has anyone been successful in tuning the DENSO to get the most out of the it?

Cambo your words make me positive regarding PCM tune, not related to power handling. friend of mine have Denso XFR and over 700nM of torque.(I have dyno results) it it was done bu ordinaty local tune company. so that meant we have lot of wizzards here

Honestly, no. There is a guy who's working on it at the moment, same guy who made my 4.2L XKR run more or less the same times as 5.0L cars...

Ah, if that were really true, then there would be Denso 5.0L cars on the list trapping 120mph+ https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...andings-84783/

And there aren't any... and in fact several cars with pulley's and tunes from "reputable tuners" got no gains at all, some even went backwards.

It is possible to get a reading on a dyno >700Nm on a Denso 5.0L car, but in reality, on the road, it can't make much more than 700, there is a limiter in play that cannot be simply tuned out.

Do you want big numbers on a dyno or you want your car to actually accelerate faster?

actualy me want to make my daily car run more silent. and safier.

my last upgrade was to replace rear silencer with xfr , and i think i will lock variable valve to make sound even less louder on higher rpm. and will mount third silencer in front after cats. but friend of mine happy with his 700nM+ 600hp+ XFR. I would not want drive it daily thought..

Do you mind sharing this person's contact with me via PM? The decision I have to make is whether to purchase a crank pulley and dyno tune with water/meth or use my current mods and tune with w/m. Basically my enjoyment is not on the dyno or track, but as a daily driver with short pulls on the fwy. My thought is that the crank pulley would give me good daily enjoyment around town (in track mode). Basically after that, all that's left is nitrous and porting supercharger.

BTW, do you think the limiters are strickly torque related or perhaps is there a heat/ temperature component in the top end? Hopeful the w/m could have some impact if it were the latter.

I'm in regular contact with him and when it's ready I will definitely let you know.

It's torque related 100%, the PCM calculates torque based on a number of values and reference tables. There are several torque limiters in the PCM, most tuners can only modify a couple of them, there are others that they simply don't know about.

Thank you. I am pretty sure this person would make a run on the DENSO tuning market when the code is cracked.

Very nice!
How did you get there? Using Meth injection?
That's a great 1/4 mile trap speed.

Hey man, I love your vids. You've proven that these cars are much more durable than most would assume. I also really appreciate your ability to tackle the big jobs and not need a sterilized engineering facility to do it. Very impressed.

neat, i didnt think an intake off of a gen 2 cts-v would work since the throttle body is angled. Is you cts-v intake meant for the first gen or second?
