Homelink from XJ8 for rolling code?
Hello all, I am hoping the Homelink will work with my garage door, but I am certain my garage door opener, having been replaced just a few years ago has rolling codes, does anyone know if replacing it with an overhead console unit from an XJ8 may work? The console looks identical, but I do not know if the wiring harness is compatible. On top of that, did Homelink add the rolling code technology around 98?
I read on the maxima forum some owners replace the console with a newer unit and wonder if anyone has tried it in their X300.

Hi Mounty,
I read somewhere that if you have problems with the rolling codes of today's garage door openers then you can get around it by approaching the problem in reverse. On some door opener motors there is a button you can press to sync or retrain the door opener to your Jag. I haven't been able to confirm this yet but I'm going to try this method when I have a bit more time next week.
Try downloading your garage door opener manual online and see if this feature is available. (or just get up on the ladder and start pushing buttons...)
Good Luck!
Chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks. Well, from what my research has shown, the 97 and older Homelink controls are not the rolling code technology, so even if I get it to work once, it will not work once the code is changed.
I just happened to be by a Nissan Maxima forums where they have similar issues and many members got around it by replacing the entire overhead bin with the Homelink control from a new unit with the rolling code technology. I am considering trying that myself, but wonder if anyone has done that already.
