Question Brake Light problem

We are talking about a 2002 XJ8 in excellent condition with 134k kilometers.
All the lights (headlights, park lights, indicators, reverse, brake lights) work except the right hand brake light. I get the message when I brake, to check rear lights.
I have replaced the bulb and swapped it with the other side and the bulb is okay. There is no signs of corrosion or damage to the bulb holder and it appears to be making good contact with the bulb.
Anybody have any clues as to what the problem could be. Wiring, brake pedal switch or whatever.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I would do a little more searching or maybe someone will chime in -- my memory tells me that a part overheats in the lamp control module. All the lights -- or most of them are controlled by a module

I remember a post where someone had a workaround that they were going to report back on how long it lasted.

I'm sure you looked over the wires and the bulb socket - My need to get a tester see what is coming out of the module. I believe someone has a wire diagram posted someplace also

Hi
I did a search on this subforum and found a thread that seems to have a solution to your problem:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...ed-bulb-10830/

Lots of good information on where to look and what are possible solutions in the posts within the thread.
Look at post# 55 - it mentions L and R brake lights and reverse lights do not work.

Better late than never. Sorry for the delay in reporting on the solution to my problem.
It was the Security and Locking Module. One of the circuit boards had burnt out.
It was recommended to me not to replace the Module but to have the existing Module repaired. Cheaper and more reliable.

Thanks again to those who responded to my request for assistance.

Can you tell me how this was resolved? I have a similar problem and don't know who to take the board to. Thanks!

I took my car to a British car specialist who diagnosed the problem after ruling out everything else. My original Security Control Module was eventually found to be unrepairable, so I purchased a new Module which was installed. Apparently the information installed on the original Module has to be transferred to the new Module via computer for it to operate. This was all done and I have had no problems since.
I understand this is a known problem to the experts and requires a bit of expertise to rectify.

Hi mockjr
You might try sending a private message to Jack Shaheen (ask him if he is willing to repair the ciricut board for you).
I copied this information of one of his earlier forum post:

My question is, is there anything in particular that I should be aware of when removing this module? I am thinking that I should probably disconnect my batter but aside from that is there anything else that is mandatory when proceeding with the removal of the SLCM?

Thanks to all who have contributed to this post already and to anyone who is able to assist me, much appreciated!!

Are you still able to help us long-suffering "Check Rear Lights" people inept at circuit board repairs? If not, do you think that if I took this to an electronics repair shop, with the information on this thread, that they would be able to repair it with ease?""""

Jack's replies:
""""Sure I can fix it for you.
send private email.

I pulled mine with the battery connected. No problem just have the key off.""""

Hope this helps.
