Front sway bar bushings for 2003 XJ8
Hello,
My car has knocking in front when going over bumps, and it turns out a well described here problem with sway bar bushings. They look good, but here is a way to check: stick a pipe or crowbar between sway bar and frame near the bushing and apply some force - mine moved good quarter inch easy and I could even make it knock.
Any suggestions on replacement bushings? I would prefer plastic instead of stock rubber to firm it up. I see some that "will fit comfort suspension" - how do I check what suspension I have?
I already tried 1 1/8 " aftermarket bushings from energy suspension and can tell - they do not fit. One thing the sway bar is a bit bigger than 1 1/8 " (need to work on my measuring skills), but they also are designed to be installed on a flat frame. Mine is not flat under the bushing, I would need to add a plate even if I got the right size.
If nothing better, I got my eyes on "ÜRO PARTS Part # MNC2102AH Sway Bar Bushing" from rockauto. They do not specify what bar diameter they fit but I hope it is the right size.
Will appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks.
Sam.

Got mine from Motorcar, Ltd. Solved some, new shocks (mostly for lower bushings -- see Bob's note above), and new upper bushings, fixed most of the rest. Put new stabilizer links in this week; not much change in noise, but smoother ride. Still struggling with a right front clunking over rough roads in under 30* F; suspect driedout body mounts.

Finally replaced bushings, easy 20 min or so job. On the picture old bushings next to new one - no much difference in looks, but a lot of knocking noise from old ones.
To make things tighter I cut a strip of plastic and inserted between bushing and bracket.
Also measured bar diameter with digital caliper - came out as 1 1/8...
