Default original motorola phone

I have a factory fitted phone. The actual phone went wrong a while ago. I recently obtained a working motorola startac. When I attach it charges through the car but I cant get the handsfree system to engage.
Before I start looking at the installed system does anyone know if Jaguar have any customised elements of the original startac that would mean ordinary startacs would not work?

By headlaches i meen the biggest issue was with charging. Just careless owners taking the phone inout of charger would damage the connection and would no longer charge. This required either a new phone, or cradle or both

yes, the phone is unique to jaguar and the phone control module in the center console...my understanding is the firmware in the jaguar specific phone is unique to that certain model of startec...and no other models will work...you can get still service through companies like page plus cellular if you do get a jag phone...

I have a full Jaguar Factory phone available should you be interested? It is the fixed version but it has all parts and I can even give you instructions on how to fit it. It works well and you can just put a normal SIM card in and it will work fine here in the UK. PM me if you're interested.

Assuming anyone's still here,

Would be very interested in seeing pics of the original phone. My XJR has the required options in the head unit, but that's it. What else would I need to be using the original equipment, and where would I get it?

Just speaking in the interest of acquiring a fun toy. I don't particularly need a car phone, it'd just be really cool to use the original.

Thanks.

No, your XJR do not have the required OPTION in the head unit.
All radios came with phone and 2000 and up with both phone and navigation

All the phones for the USA X308 were the CDMA or TDMA or something like that!!
I don't think the dinosaur phones are supported anymore.

I have 2 TIMEPORT Jaguar phones in my attic that I removed from the trash when I worked at the Jag dealer. They are used ones (warranty return? still in the box) but I remember I charged them up and read through the phone contacts (they were still programmed into the phone).

I never pressed the call button because I'm sure they were not activated.

You might call a service provider and ask if the old Motorola TIMEPORT phones are still supported?? They will probably LAUGH!!!!

Hey stu you still around? U seem to be the only one who knows about the phones. Haha
I had the startac working very well in my 1999 Sovereign. I got a new 2001 daimler now with a phone. But that is only charging. No buttons work on the radio or wheel.
I tried using my old phone. Same.
I switched the cradle.. Same.

Do you have any other idea? Are there specific fuses that could be down? I checked in the trunk. The 🤔are ok
