Parking Light Bulb Removal

Parking Light Bulb Removal
I have a 2003 XJR that I am going to replace the little 194 / 2825 lamps that are used for the parking lights. There is a grey plastic blade that sticks out from the back of the housing. Do you pull it straight out, or do you twist it (and if so, which way do you turn it)?
Thank You:

Here is the JTIS on Front head Lights - Bulbs R&R
Hi
The High Beam Lamp (light) and the Parking Lamp (light) are both contained in inner head Lamp (headlight) units.
The Parking light bulb is near the bottom of the inner headlight unit.
The High Beam light bulb is in the center of the inner headlight unit.
The Main Beam Lamp is contained in outer headlight units and is in the center of those units.
I created this JPEG file - Main Beam & High Beam Headlamp bulb removal diagram and instruction from JTIS CD:
The Halogen type bulbs can be damaged from touching your hands. Use clean gloves before press the plastic spring clips and pulling out the bulb holder from headlamp unit. Then pull the bulb from the holder.
Front Parking Light is removed from the lower part of the inner Headlight units. Rotate the bulb holder anti-clockwise 1/4 turn and pull out of the Headlight unit.
This JPEG contains the diagram on how to remove the bulb holder from the headlamp unit:
This is a PDF file extract from JTIS CD for Front Side Marker Lamp Bulb R&R Located in Front Bumper:
XJ8 front side Marker Lamp bulb R&R.pdf
If you have a problem opening this PDF file then this is the instructions say to remove the bulb:
1) removing bulb "Rotate bulb holder 1/4 turn counter-clockwise to release it from lamp assembly" then withdraw bulb
2) installing new bulb: "Install bulb in bulb holder. Install bulb and bulb holder in lamp assembly and rotate 1/4 turn clockwise to seat and retain."
Also here is another PDF file showing how to access the front Fog Lamps located near the bottom of the front bumper and how to change the Fog Lamp bulb:

There a forum thread on the Lexus Model Forum with a review and pictures the new Xenondepot 360 degree 194 LED. Shows before or after pictures of the parking lights on Lexus CL. It is a well done DIY for Lexus CL with a lot of pictures. Also has pictures of the other front lights with these new LED (headlight and front directional turn).

Hi
Update: I just tried to remove one of the headlamp holder in our 2001 XJ8 and could not apply enough pressure to be able to push in the locking tangs. Apparently because of the age of the plastic, the tangs have become less piable.
I had to use a large long screwdriver to first press (applied force against metal and tang) on the right side holder tang to release that side. Then with the screwdriver I pushed in the left side tang and the bulb holder came out of the housing. Caution - too much pressure might cause damage to the locking tangs.
Here is a photo of the bulb holder. Note the locking tangs on both sides of the holder:

Here is the information before the update above.

The posting contains instructions & diagrams that cover all of the front light bulbs replacements (high beam headlamp, main beam headlamp, front parking light, front side marker lamp and the front fog lamp).
Did you push in both sides of bulb holder tangs to release the holder, and then pull the bulb holder towards you?

I am told that it is possible to pull out the headlamp and bulb complete by inserting a hooked grip from the front of the vehicle, and hooking it behind the chrome rim of the headlamp itself and giving a sharp tug. This needs to be done in 3 places adjacent to the back holding clips which apparently are ball type joints holding the headlamps in. This should allow the headlight to pop out making it much easier to get to bulb holders, and change bulbs. That done they then "pop" back in to place.
Can anyone confirm if this info is correct or not before I break my headlights trying what isn't actually possible?

Rich, they are held in on ***** as you say, the receiver is in the lamp, the problem is plastic gets very brittle after 10+ years.
If one of the ball posts gets yanked out of the lamp frame, there's no easy way to fix it. The frame has captive bolts, these rust to the nuts and turn in the frame, making the frame useless. A small job turns into a big one and expensive.
If you're having probs getting the lamp holder out of the light, try some release agent after a drive when the plastic is warm and a pair of pipe grips to wiggle the holder out.
