Default Throttle body issue / Stability control fail

I have been having a lot of trouble with the whole limp mode problem lately. Recently I have been getting the stability control fail and failsafe engine mode lights on right when I start the car. My mechanic has told me the throttle position sensor on the throttle body is bad and needs replacing.

It seems like throttle bodies are hard to come by, but I found some on ebay
1998 1999 Jaguar XJ8 XJ8L Vanden Plas Throttle Body | eBay

Now this says only for the first half of the year of 99 XJ8's does this work. How do i know if mine was built in the first half of the year? Is this throttle body going to be a piece of junk? Does anyone know where I might find getting one?

Thanks

Hi jayneld,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums!

I have moved your post from the X350 forum to the forum for the X308, which is the Jagaur factory code for your 1999 XJ8. In this forum you will find knowledgeable owners of similar cars who will be happy to try to help.

In the meantime, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction to give us some info about yourself and your car.

Cheers,

Don

To update everyone, I think I am going to purchase Jaguar XJ8 XK8 1999 03 Throttle Body Assembly XW93 9E926 AF w TPS 198500 3250 | eBay this. It looks like its in the best condition, and seeing as my throttle body has already been replaced (and still has issues) I should get the best I can get. Am i right about this?

Thomas,

I've removed the mystifying 'Reload this page...' from the beginning of your thread title.

Wow... 3 days and only a single response?

I know nothing about jaynelds car, but know the folks in the forum are usually stunningly fast to offer guidance!

Any help for my fellow Pacific Northwesterner? We would love to see his Cat stalking the Cascade byways real soon!

It reads to me like the OP has decided to get a TB. I don't see why, but hey. I was expecting more in the way of reasoning and maybe more in the way of questions.

Not sure I would bother with a used unit, when for not much more you can get a rebuilt unit from ASI with a lifetime warranty.

I researched and waited far too long before doing mine, I should have just done it right from the start. Cannot recommend them highly enough.

@grandell my Tps is the the thing that is actually creating all the errors. Does ASI rebuild yours or do you buy rebuilt ones?

I park my car on the street, so I cant really have it sit for two weeks without a throttle body in it

@Jagv8 Yeah I think that is going to be my plan. I was hoping you guys could help me out in picking the right one haha.

I have figured out that my 99 uses the "newer" model Tb's from like 99-03
I was thinking one like this 98 03 Jaguar XJ8 XK8 Throttle Body Amp TPS Complete 4 0L XW93 9E926 AE | eBay

I have a similar problem with spurious start up messages. It may be that your Inertia switch is failing. This is there to cut the engine & fuel pump in the event of a crash. If it goes faulty or the earth (Ground) has failed, you may get these messages. Its located on the right hand side of the dash board, when you open the door, a small cover which simply pops off.
The throttle body sensor is a known fault and a used one is the cheapest option.

Default failsafe never gets better

my 99 v8 Sovereign bought at circa 130000 miles in 2013 has suffered continually from intermittent failsafe / traction stability control,
and been through the gamut of ABS solder repair, several lambda probes , most recently a replaced second hand throttle body, all on the basis of codes thrown up. - by the way the jag main dealer put the obligatory new battery in before sending me to a reputable ex jag techncian ( who I trust implicitly) still my car waits till I get it home from him, then goes back on the blink.
why do we believe the codes?

i did see a hint about it making a difference being in or out of crusie control , though I noticed that when failsafe last came on this morning , i could not get the cruise control to light up on the switch.
Later today after cooling and restarting the car, failsafe has yet to kick in and the cruise control light comes on on the button!
can it just be loose connections? is it poor insulation leading to leakage and tripping the computer
is there any way to SWITCH OFF OR BAYPASS FAILSAFE ??!!
