Sunroof panel sagging

Hi
Maybe a sunroof panel track is broken or the sunroof panel has come out of the track.
I do not know of a quick fix.
There are instruction in the JTIS about how to remove the sunroof frame. There a lot of steps that include removing part of the headliner to get access to the frame and other sunroof componets.
Also if the sunroof panels are getting wet you might want to read this posting on Sunroof Drains (go down to post# 2):

This is the information I found about the Sunroof panels.

The front portion of the sunroof panel is metal, the small piece at the back is plastic. You have to tilt the sunroof up to remove the large panel out through the outside. I just took my headliner down and the sunroof panels out so I can replace the entire headliner. I can take some pictures if you would like to see the panel out.

Sorry for the delay, has been busy for me lately. Got some pictures of the roof panel and the track inside the car with the panel out. Hope these help you out. To remove the large panel you have to tilt the sunroof up and pull the large panel out from the outside of the car. It should just slide out, you have to kinda compress the springs on it a little to get it out but it will come. The smaller panel has to be pulled out from the inside of the car. You will have to drop the headliner to get to it. You have to leave the sunroof tilted up to slide the small panel toward the back of the car. There are a couple of rubber plugs in the end of the track you have to remove and then the panel will slide out the back. The sunroof mechanism releases this small portion when it is tilted up and then engages it to push it forward and back as the sunroof travels to fully open.

If you still have questions I have had to remove my sunroof panel again. To insert the large padded panel you insert it while the sunroof is tilted up. Slide it in the opening once the sunroof is tilted up and it locks in the front on two pins. The rear is held down by the two metal springs. it should snap in at the front. The small rear peice has to be put in from inside the car. There are two small runners that hold the small trim peice in. Hope this helps.

Glad you got the big one in. There are two small runners that are in the sunroof track. Run your hand along the sunroof track and you should find them. They should be in the track that the sunroof rides in, and you should be able to just push them forward and back fairly easily. The smaller piece clips on the top of those runners. Those runners have a piece that the front part grabs to push and pull it with the larger piece. I believe from the last time I worked on mine that the small piece needs to go from inside the car. If you have the headliner down you should be able to find those little runners and clip the small peice on to them. You then need to just slide it up just behind the large piece until it overlaps the larger piece and will not go any further forward. From there, the sunroof should do what it needs to by pushing that piece back when it opens and then pulling it back forward when you close the sunroof. I would try it several times before you put the headliner back in. By the way the clips on my small piece broke and it will no longer clip in correctly, there could be a chance yours is broken as well if you have trouble clipping it to those runners. I will try to get out and take some more photos of it for you. Unfortunately I do not have my headliner down though.

Hey Jeff thanks for the nicely detailed explanation.
I haven't had time , and the headliner material match was a job in itself...lol
I'm going to try to post a pic of a piece of black plastic that fell out when I took out the headliner, but I think its a piece fron the large cover that was removed before I bought the car not not the piece it rides on

Ok, I "think" I have part of my problem fixed. Once I got the panel over the central guide lugs (terminology according to jimlombardi's excellent pdf) it functions better. But still not perfect. I don't think I have the most forward part of the panel engaged with the slider pegs. The pegs are resting under the front part of the panel, though, in some divot area. Are the pegs supposed to go directly into those holes I saw on the rail? Seems like a special tool would be needed to spring the pegs in?

I still have not figured out how to get the front of the big panel to connect with the pegs, or whatever I need it to do.
I downloaded and tried to reference jimlombardi's pdf. It says, in step 2 of installation, to PULL the panel over the pegs. Say what - how am I supposed to pull?
