I have a '99 Jag XJ8 - beautiful car. But has the tensioner problem on the cams. I want to replace all of the tensioners but cant get the dampner off. Applied heat while using puller - dampner wont move. Is there a locking ring or anything on this dampner thats holding it on????
Thanks - Mike

Appying heat will damage the damper. You might need to replace the damaged damper as the rubber might be degraded from heat. The very early dampers were held with 'locktite'(303-05) but the later ones have a 'split-cone' to hold them to the crankshaft. TSB 303-10 describes the procedure for damper removal. A really big hammer or an Oxy-Acetylene 'smoke wrench' will usually loosen parts, but most times finness will be less damaging.
Here are the TSBs you need for damper removal
